Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcie Lakin.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Marcie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began in New York City as a makeup artist in the early 1990s. I worked with models doing fashion shoots, commercials and magazines, such as Seventeen etc. and got to experience several seasons of NYC’s famous fashion week from the inside.
After living in the city for about a decade, I moved to the breathtaking French Alps. In that year, surrounded by French culture, I learned to see the nuances of life and appreciate all in a new way.
I came to Miami in 1999 and got representation right away at the exclusive “Irene Marie Models,” Artists Division. I was also, at different times, represented by Wilhelmina and Elite Model Management.
Jumping forward, I had my amazing daughter in 2004 and took some time to be with and nurture my new little one. During this period, I more strongly embraced a natural healthy lifestyle. My baby girl was crawling around on the floor. Therefore, I knew I had to make healthier choices to protect her from the harmful toxins that were used in almost all mainstream household products.
After taking some time off to be with my little daughter, it was time to get back to work.
My new business had to reflect my new healthy values. Peace Love Makeup & Apothecary was born.
Peace Love Makeup was one of the first high-end natural and organic makeup boutiques, online. I also had a natural makeup studio in the heart of Coconut Grove, Fl.
As I worked with models and clients, I heard their stories. They confided in me as I uplifted their spirits, while choosing natural colors to enhance their outer beauty. It was a wonderful time in my life and I had a good amount of loyal clients that loved what I did, but I soon realized, that in my heart, inner beauty and self-love was what I really wanted to share!
In 2014, I found the path I want to follow and applied to an incredible program with The Foundation for Holistic Life Coaching, located in Maui!!
I was certified to be a coach by the profound and wise teacher and prolific author, Alan H. Cohen.
In the beginning stages of coaching my clients, we both found it was helpful and fun to pull a few oracle cards to round out the session. To my surprise the cards mirrored our conversations every time.
I again found a special teacher in Denise Linn and became certified as a Soul Coaching Oracle Card Reader.
My intention with those I work with is to support them in connecting with their own highest wisdom and I tailor each session personally for the needs of that client.
I do still do make up jobs sometimes, when I’m called upon by very special clients.
Recently I was the makeup artist at Sophie Uliano’s “Gorgeously Green” Miami retreat.
It was so much fun and wholly in line with what I believe.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life has definitely had its twists and turns. After getting divorced, I had to adapt to a much simpler way of life. Also changing careers is no bed of roses and I am still building my client base.
In 2009, just after my daughter’s fifth birthday, I got a frantic phone call from my mother in the middle of the night. After running into my second grade teacher from N. Y. and having a happy reunion, my parents were victims of a crime in their local Dunkin Donuts in Delray Beach. My father had been shot by a “Crips” gang member and his face had been badly mutilated. He has gone through more operations than I can count, to restore him to some form of normality. This, obviously had a severe effect on my life. I knew that I could either live a life of depression and anger, as many would in my situation, or I could actively seek to live in happiness. During this time, I started chanting with Buddhists and doing as many positive workshops as I could. I was fortunate enough to go through “The Shadow Process” at a workshop in Fort Lauderdale, with the late Debbie Ford. This work had a profound impact on my life as well as introducing me to the spiritual community in South Florida, that has since become my soul family. We all go through dark places in our lives and endure difficulty.
I have learned that it is not our experience that dictates how happy our life is, it is how we react to it. A horrific situation can be a vehicle for positive change. It is our choice and I choose to be consciously happy. (most of the time, anyway)
Marcie Lakin, Certified Holistic Life Coach, Soul Coaching Oracle Card Reader, Green Makeup Artist & Self Love Coach – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am most proud that I make a positive impact in the lives of others. I love to see the positive changes people make in their lives after just a few sessions. I am completely grateful for the work I am now doing!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I would say luck is a perception. You can have two people in the exact same circumstances, one is miserable, the other feels lucky and filled with joy. Me? I am very, very lucky 🙂
