Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcia Villiers.
Marcia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Absolutely! Our start came about some 22 years ago, not consecutively I might add. I say that, as when the idea of a floral design business came about, I was a stay at home mom in NY with our first born. Prior to that my background was in banking. I attended St. John’s University for a period of two years, where I studied Accounting. I have always enjoyed art and crafts as a teen and carried it through as a hobby.
I attended a workshop on silk floral arranging at a local craft store, and fell deeper in love with the art of designing and the magical usage of a glue gun. After some perfect execution on some wreath making pieces, I knew it was time to take it to the next level. I filed for a “Marcia’s Creations,” business license in Suffolk County, NY and continued designing for a short while.
A few years later, we relocated to South Florida for warmer weather. It was perfect! We extended the family twice, and once our youngest, now a teenager, was two, it was time to jump back in. I again did smaller events closer to home to be on call for the children while working for a major hospital in the finance department. I would get praises like, “these pieces are so beautiful, so creative and unique.”
It was at that moment I decided to register the business as “Beautiful Kreations.” I came up with the name because clients were saying the pieces were “Beautiful” and with a slight variation of the “C” in creations to a “K” for uniqueness, Beautiful Kreations was born. Since Launching in 2005, our growth has been nothing short of amazing. We have been blessed to have partaken in Superbowls XLI and XLIV as designers.
We have won the coveted Knot’s Best of Weddings Award for six straight years and are now a Hall of Fame winner. Beautiful Kreations has done over 600 weddings throughout South Florida and has even reached international points with Harbour Island in The Bahamas. I’m also happy to announce that I am apart of a handful of talented pros appointed as a 2019 “The Knot Pro Educator”! My natural passion for learning and this industry made this possible. As a word of encouragement to anyone pondering the idea of a business venture, I advise to “go for it” and “stay in the game.” It will absolutely be worth it and always remember that a NO simply means, “next opportunity.”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The pathway to success hasn’t been easy. I mean, if everything were easy then everyone would be in, right? Like most start-ups obtaining financing can be a struggle. The growing pains of rejections and denials, can really be a dream crusher. Good old fashioned savings, though, and savvy business strategy would prevail. I became my own Peter and my own Paul navigating the pathway.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Beautiful Kreations – what should we know?
Beautiful Kreations is an event floral decor company, and we design beautiful events worldwide. We have been in business for 14 years. Last year was a record year for us doing over 120 events with 85% of those events being weddings. Our designs are timeless, elegant, eclectic and of course Beautiful! I particularly enjoy purchasing non-trending pieces for our inventory, shelving an asset and tying up cash flow is a no, no.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My father who is no longer with us played a huge role in supporting all my ideas from jump… then again, that’s what fathers do right!? Then there is my husband of 23 years, our children, and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Dr. Barton. He really coached me along the way, suggesting books and conferences to attend and gave really great advice.
