Meet Marcello Buruiana of The Office Delray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcello Buruiana.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marcello. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
With a constant curiosity for the restaurant industry and a passion for tasting great cuisine, I left my background in sales and followed a passion of mine into the kitchen. Always mesmerized by the cooking shows I’d watch on TV, I would pull whatever items were in my fridge at the time and whip up nothing into something. This then lead me into the Assistant Manager position at The Office, where I was able to learn the ins and outs of the restaurant. As time went on, I was once again curious for more. So, once the opportunity arose for the General Manager role, I immersed myself into my true passion and couldn’t be happier. In this position, I am able to showcase my creative side – whether it be in menu or recipe development or creating offers for The Office.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge so far has been adjusting to the power of social media and review platforms. While social media is a great public forum for our guests to share their positive dining experiences, this also makes us susceptible to people’s personal opinions. Each guest has different needs and views and we strive to cater to everyone to the best of our ability. Whether social posts are positive or negative, my team and I take these challenges head on and we are always working towards one common goal – giving our guests our 110% best each and every day.

The Office Delray – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
When asked this question, I immediately asked for the opinion of one of my lead bartenders, which is indicative of my leadership style. His response when asked, ‘what makes us different?’ and ‘what makes us better?’ was that we have unbeatable food, a large indoor and outdoor bar with a vast menu of hand-crafted cocktails. Not to mention, our location is second to none, with a vibrant design and fun ambiance.

As a critical thinker, I am known to be tough but fair as I believe to seize all opportunities. The food and beverage industry will always excite me because I am always wondering, ‘what is going to be the new trend?’ This thought drives me to cultivate new ideas for The Office and my team and always be a step ahead of the competition.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career was the birth of my daughter. Although, this was success in my personal life – it pushed me harder in my career. I remember a chef once asked me, ‘why do you want to push so hard?’ And my answer simply was, ‘my daughter will be born soon and this is for her.’
