Today we’d like to introduce you to Malkhaz Gorgisheli.
Malkhaz, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve traveled all over Europe especially Italy. I’ve been in the wine business for many years and I’ve visited many wineries and got to know the wonderful people involved in creating exceptional wine. I’ve have a great passion in bringing quality wine from hand selected wineries into the United States. I have realized very good quality wine made by these wineries have never been introduced to the United States and I believe that once these wine are tasted and tried out they will buy no other wine.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The difficulty in representing these authentic wineries is American unfamiliarity with them. We mostly receive positive feedback from samples we send out, but it is difficult to introduce customers to the wines initially.
The Simple Wine – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are The Simple Wine, an importer and distributor of non-industrial, natural Italian wines. We work with approximately 40 wineries, with whom we have exclusive US importing contracts. Our importing and distributing operations are conducted through a partnership with Park Street. Through Park Street, we operate from four nationwide warehouses (Miami, New York/New Jersey, Los Angeles, San Francisco).
Our wines come from all regions of Italy and range from entry level to top level. In addition, many of our wines are certified organic in Europe. We have obtained COLA approvals for all our wines and have all the necessary registration in FL, NY, NJ and CA.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Creating from the ground up “The Simple Wine” company in Fort Lauderdale. We have weekly wine tastings and we retail directly to consumers and restaurants locally. Seeing how people’s respond with excitement and love the taste of our authentic wine makes everything worth it.
