Meet Linda Martin of Linda’s Dream for Education in Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Martin.

Linda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a child, my education was something I had to fight for, even climb mountains for, which has made the goal of education for Haiti’s children near and dear to my heart. With the devastation left behind by the earthquake in 2010, my team and I have dedicated ourselves to the restoration and building of schools for the children of Haiti. It is my dream, but I believe it should be our reality. We started small, helping as many as we could out of our own pockets. We focused our efforts on a particular school, called Ecole Evangélique d’Haïti de Rivière Salée, which was in dire need. Our only mission is to empower the children of Haiti in pursuing an education that, undoubtedly, should be provided to all children.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been very smooth, It has been tough to find funding for our efforts as my team and I have been funding the majority of our efforts out of pocket. That has been the biggest challenge and struggles for my team thus far but we are optimistic for the future and we believe that this is a dream worth fighting for no matter the difficulties that we may face.

What should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from others?
Linda’s Dream for Education is a 501 (c)(3) organization and was birthed from the devastation left behind by the earthquake in 2010. Every year since 2013, we send members of our team to deliver the necessary school supplies that the students do not have access to, but desperately need. It is our way of helping, giving back to our country and our people. It is our way to give these children a chance for a greater future through education. The school currently accommodates more than 300 students and is a series of three very small concrete buildings that each serve as a classroom for the school’s students. Due to recent seismic activities, the school has been further damaged, leaving the future of these children at stake. Linda’s Dream for Education has only one mission: to aid the children of Haiti in pursuing an education that, undoubtedly, should be provided to all children.
