Meet Linda deFreitas, Licensed Insurance Agent in Broward County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda deFreitas.

Linda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my insurance career a little over five years ago, just six months after my father had a massive left brain stroke, which left him unable to walk or speak. At the time of his stroke, I was employed as an executive assistant and had a hard time being at work and being at the hospital with my family (an hour away). Exactly thirty days after his stroke, I was let go from my job. At first, I was really upset and angry but then I realized that, there were more important things to life, like my family. I made a decision to stay away from the corporate world and thought about how I could add more meaning to my life and make a difference in someone else’s. Insurance just seemed right for me. I’m happy, I made that choice and grateful for all the clients that I have helped!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I started my career as a captive agent working for a very large agency. Unfortunately, it felt like I was still in the corporate world. While with that agency, I had five different sales leaders, all with different sales styles and techniques. The expectations of the agency were the same for all agents, whether you were a brand new agent with no experience or a seasoned professional. The biggest challenge for me to wrap my head around, was the mandatory weekly sales meetings that not all agents attended. During those meetings, the agency manager would go over all sales and if you didn’t have sales for the week, you were made to feel inferior. I have never been a big fan of this type of encouragement. I had many weeks with no sales and felt pressured all the time. I always did what was best for my clients, and not what was best for the agency. I finally decided to go on my own almost a year ago and I’ve never looked back.

Licensed Insurance Agent – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a Florida licensed insurance agent. I am a helper by heart and use my expertise and knowledge to assist clients with their insurance needs. The services I provide are Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage (Part C), Prescription Drug Plan (Part D), Dental, Dental Indemnity, Vision, Cancer, Critical Illness, Accident, Hospital Indemnity, Final Expense, Long Term Care, Short Term Medical, Life and Health Insurance.

I advise my clients and together we build an insurance portfolio that fits their needs and budget. I am not obligated to any one carrier and can offer assistance as my client’s needs change throughout life.

The best part is there is never a charge for my services!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, success is happiness. You have to love what you do and be happy doing it. I have so much passion about insurance that when I’m meeting with a client, I find myself educating them about insurance. It’s always important to pass on tidbits of knowledge. If I learn something that people are generally not aware of, I let them know, so they may avoid that situation and expense by just knowing about it. I am a very friendly person and enjoy sitting and talking with people, so my clients feel like friends. That is a great way to measure success and happiness!
