Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Schackmann.
Hi Kristin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am an agency-represented plus-size model and actress with a background in Psychology. I have established myself over the last few years in the modeling industry and over the past three years as an influencer.
I have shot campaigns and worked with major companies including Nordstrom, Macy’s, POPFitClothing, and many more. I have graced the runways of Full Figured Fashion Week, LAFW, NYFW, and Miami Swim Week. With a B.A. in Psychology from Arizona State University, I previously worked with families and children as a family support specialist. My background comes in handy when it comes to connecting with my audience. Naturally, when I decided to switch career paths into modeling full-time, my social media presence grew. I love being able to connect not only through beautiful images but also my down-to-earth presence and positive energy to my daily life.
I have a passion for helping others on their self-love and confidence journey, as well as style and fashion to fit everyBODY.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been many challenges along the way. When switching career paths, there is always a little bit of hesitance in the back of your mind. Is this going to work out? Am I going to be successful, etc? I had to take a leap of faith and just do it. I have always loved helping others but now it was time to do something I have always wanted to do. Modeling full-time can be a constant hustle. Some weeks/months can be great, and others you may not be booked for anything. You have to stay positive and not let rejection or judgments get to you. What is meant for you is already yours. I wanted to show others it doesn’t matter what you look like or what others think of you but be confident in who you are. Everything is possible if you keep believing it is already yours.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I look at my career and am so blessed. I have worked hard to get to the place I am at in my career and life. I can’t wait to see where modeling and acting will take me on this next journey. I am a print and e-comm model. I do love the runway. It is your time to shine even if it’s only for a minute. Miami Swim Week is one of my favorite runway shows of the year. It brings so much life and energy. Everyone has a great time whether you’re a model, photographer, production or in the audience watching the show. I’m most proud of working with my regular clients over the past several years as they grow from small businesses to a large companies. They truly have become family. I love seeing how we have helped each other grow. I have also gotten into doing more commercials and tv/movie roles. I have a role in a court tv show coming out this October on Discovery’s ID channel. I am myself on set and thankful to have representation that does not make me change who I am.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Don’t give up. The entertainment industry can be brutal. Take away something positive from each of your jobs, castings, networking experiences, etc. Never stop hustling and going after what you want. Some people think once you have an agent or agency, you don’t have to put in any work. Continue to look for castings, work and learning about yourself and craft.
