Meet Justice Michael

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justice Michael.

Justice, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started when I was three years old and got my first drum kit for Christmas! When I sat behind the kit, I felt the rhythms naturally flow out of me. From that day on, I knew I wanted to do music for my life. I grew up in Atlanta GA and had several opportunities to play at different clubs and venues when I was young. I even had to sneak into some of them because of my age! One highlight of my early career was winning Amateur Night three times at the historic Apollo Theatre in New York. Performing where many greats made history, was an amazing experience for me and confirmed my passion for performing live.

Back home in Atlanta while I was in middle school, I started a funk fusion instrumental band called Anonymous Da Band, which has become a well-known group around the Southeast. Currently, we just released our second album, Foreign Matter which is out on all platforms. In addition to performing with my band, I produce and compose music.

I currently attend University of Miami’s Frost School of Music majoring in MADE (Musicianship, Artistry Development, and Entrepreneurship). I am also part of the Rock With U Ent. Team. I am looking forward to see what the future holds for me.

Has it been a smooth road?
Because I started in this business so young, people would think it would be easier, but in actuality, it was not. There were many instances where I had to prove myself because of my age. People would not give me chances like other drummers because I looked so young. But once until I sat down and started playing, things were OK. I would have to talk my way into playing at different clubs and bars around Atlanta. As time progressed, people in the industry started to take me more seriously and this obstacle was eliminated. Now I am happy that I am about to complete my degree which will complement my professional experience in the industry and make me more marketable.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Justice Michael Music is my company where I provide a variety of entertainment services. I am a Multi-Instrumentalist (Drums, Keys, Percussion), Musical Director, Producer, and Songwriter. I also provide studio services including engineering, tracking, and mixing projects. Currently, during this COVID 19 pandemic I am offering special session deals because I know it is tough for musicians at this time.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I am lucky to be a college student in the city of Miami. Miami offers a vibrant musical landscape of various genres. I can find R&B, Jazz, Cuban, Latin music all in one night if I choose. It is a melting pot of cultures that stretches beyond the Atlantic. It’s hard to dislike Miami with the great weather, good food, and beautiful women!
