Today we’d like to introduce you to Julissa Marie.
Julissa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Julissa and I have been producing art since I was a kid. I grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and took my art career seriously right after graduating from high school. My style features faces that I realized over time is an expression of my emotions and how I see the world. I remember working 9-5 jobs, wondering why I was there and not at home working on a painting instead.
Once I left those jobs to focus on art as a full-time career, I could never imagine going back. So many opportunities have presented themselves to me and I now have murals all around town under my belt, as well as a collaborative wall in Miami for Art Basel. As I continue growing throughout my journey as a full-time artist and tattoo apprentice, I’ve learned how hard it is to be your own boss. I will be forever happy with the choice I made because I’ve also come to learn that with dedication and consistency, life will always prevail with better results.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being a full-time artist has its ups and downs especially if you allow fear to overcome your consistency.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see myself becoming known for what I do outside of my city, Atlanta and Miami. I feel as if I will be recognized for my unique style and given so many more opportunities.
