Meet Joshua Soria of The Creature Cage in Coral Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Soria.

Joshua, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved music since I was a wee lad. My mom raised me on a wide array of stuff, from Peruvian folk music to Broadway soundtracks so I think a lot of that bleeds into the music we’re doing today. At some point, in my adolescence, my tastes took a turn for the more experimental and extreme and ever since then I’ve just been trying to reflect that in my own art.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not smooth but that’s what makes it exciting. I’ve been part of a few groups already and The Creature Cage itself has endured quite a few lineup changes as well but all in all, each iteration and experience only leaves the spirit of it all stronger. That coupled along with an overwhelming desire on my end to keep as much stuff in-house as possible has led to some not-so-smooth experiences, but I think at the end of the day the effort is worth it.

Please tell us about The Creature Cage.
The Creature Cage is a shapeshifting band collective lead by me, Joshua Soria. There’s a lot of different influences flying around in our music but primarily I’d say most would consider us “psychedelic, experimental, progressive, etc.” all that fun stuff. I’ve definitely learned to take a lot of cues from the punk and metal stuff around here when it comes to sheer explosive energy, but I also like to create mind-altering atmospheres as well. Mosh, veg out, mosh, veg out, repeat you know. We’ve got some music out already, and I’m working on another album that’ll hopefully be out by the end of the year.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
It’s hard to pinpoint because it’s just been a real fun time so far putting out songs and then seeing people get excited and react to them live. That to me is the most exhilarating thing.
