Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge Fraga.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jorge. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My barbering career started back in 1998 in union city, NJ. I was laid off work and needed to do something! So a friend who was a barber taught me how to cut hair. I never really found it hard to do, since my mother was a hairdresser and my uncle was the family barber. It kind came easy because I was always around the hair industry.
In 1999 I opened my first barbershop calling it a house of fades… it was not easy running a shop. The barbers would always come and go, but I always stayed positive and consistent in the shop. I ran the shop till 2008, where I decided to relocate to Miami, Florida… it was a little tougher not really knowing anyone but my older brother Luis. I decided to work for a barbershop until I could build a good clientele to open my first shop… I was able to do so in 2009 in Cutler bay in Miami… by 2018, I was kind of burned out, so I decided to take a break from ownership. So I went to work for a friend who just opened a shop in Miami beach. I have now been working at the shop for over a year. I am now ready to get back to being a business owner. A shop is in the works to open sometime in 2020.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not. Maintaining good and motivated barbers was the challenge and struggle.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kings of Clippers Barbershop – what should we know?
My business specializes in man grooming from a basic haircut to a full-service ex.styling, hot towel shave, and facials. When customers have questions on how to maintain their styles, or what products to use at home, I educate them on what is best for their hair type. I take pride in my craft. I take my time with my customers to build lasting relationships. I want them to feel comfortable in my chair, I want them to be happy when they leave, and if and when they have questions, I want them to be properly educated. You don’t get that from many barbers, so that is what sets me apart.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe that being consistent and the ability to effectively communicate with my customers is most important to my success.
