Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Sigler.
Jonathan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started rapping making secular music when I was 15 years old. My homeboys Dre and Tonio taught me how to rap. Since the first time I went to the studio and recorded my first song, I have been rapping ever since. Before I became a minister of music, I took my rap career very seriously. My best friend Dre and I were a rap duo (One Dre N Jon). We traveled to Florida, performing and opening up for the major artist. During that time, I was selling drugs, drinking, and smoking every day. That life wore me down. I was empty. During that time, I felt like God was asking me to give everything up for Him. I was at a crossroads. I knew I had a conscious decision to make, either keep living this life or turn to God. Thankfully I chose God. Ever since then, I have been rapping for the Lord and He has ordained me a minister/preacher of His word.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been an easy road. God has been raising me up since then and He is still doing so. I was addicted to this world. I was having sex, watching porn, smoking weed, drinking lots of alcohol, using profane language, etc., as a professing Christian. God has been patient with me. He has taught me His ways and has given me the desires of my heart. Even though God has brought me through all of that, I have still faced some pretty tall giants.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Well I am a part of two ministries. The first is Strong Life Raw. It is founded by J.C. Jose Perez. We are all about living an overall strong life. Strong mind, body, spirit. We all seek the Lord’s face and speak truth unapologetically. We preach the gospel of Jesus Christ with boldness and compassion. I am also a part of Urban Youth Justice. Founded by Pedro Rodriguez. What we do is preach the word of God to the youth. We have five different Juvenile Detention Centers here in Florida that we visit on a weekly basis. Each time we visit, we bring for the kid’s snacks, literature, ministry music, and most importantly the word of God. I am proud of the lives that turn to Jesus because of these two ministries. You can’t put a price on that. And I believe what sets us apart from the others is that we are not just relatable vessels with good music, but we do not hold back the truth or bite our tongue at all. We give Gods word straight up, no sugar added.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Overall for myself and us at Strong Life Raw, we plan to make CHH (Christian HipHop) cool on a mainstream level without compromising the truth of God’s word.
