Meet Jodi Hershey of joyjourneyofyou.com

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodi Hershey.

Jodi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story starts when I was working in a high stressed job for about 13 years. I was raising a family and was walking around with a low-grade fever for months, I was tired all the time. I was exhausted just getting out of bed. It felt like I was walking around with the bad flu but I wasn’t. I went to many doctors and they didn’t know what was wrong with me. They suggested maybe I was depressed and offered anti-depressants. I knew I wasn’t depressed and that was not the answer. Finally, after many tests at the age of 40, I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. I was bedridden for months. I wasn’t able to go to work. Nobody understood this because I didn’t look sick. People thought I was making it up, so it became very frustrating. I felt like I was in crisis physically, emotionally and spiritually. The only thing that was helping me physically was acupuncture and Chinese herbs. I swear by this to this day.

After lying in bed for months, I woke up one day and said to myself, “Do you want to live or do you want to die” because I was dying there in that bed day after day. So I said to myself, “I want to live, I’m not ready to give up”. I had to take a good hard look at myself and what wasn’t working in my life anymore if I was going to get better.

I realized that everything in my life wasn’t working anymore. My job, my marriage my lifestyle. I had three children at home and a mortgage to pay, how was I going to change my life?

I knew I had to make decisions if I was going to get up. So, I took a deep breath, and said to myself, “universe, you are going to have to help me walk through these changes, I can’t do it myself”. I made the decision to get well no matter what. I let go of my job. I talked to my husband and told him we needed to make changes for our marriage to work. He chose not to do that. I went to an apartment for a year until my older kids graduated high school. I was gradually getting better but still very tired. I went on a quest to feel where my life needed to be and what would nurture me back to health. A year later I moved to Taos, New Mexico. I started to see real changes in my health. Nature is so healing. I started writing again. For the next ten years, I embraced my spiritual life and finding my truth within. I worked with many spiritual counselors and studied a lot of alternative healing methods.

Sound and Color therapy is the healing I decided to work with. It was so healing for me, that I decided to get training in them. I feel we will see a lot more of these modalities in mainstream medicine. I also work with aromatherapy and crystals. I started a company called Joy Journey of You that helps people on their spiritual journey and to offer these healing modalities. I also have a published book called – The Call Of The Day which talks about these changing times and what we are all called to do.

I currently have joined an acupuncturist, Michelle Oravitz, in an office on Miami Beach. She is wonderful and we sometimes join our services together as they complement each other.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Things are never what they seem. To me, you embark on the journey and you follow the yellow brick road so to speak. There are always twists and turns, it’s how well you ride the waves and remain clear of your original intention. For me, I wanted to help people through my writing and healing work to be the best they can be. I would recommend be open to changes that can benefit or enhance your vision and say no to the ones that don’t.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about joyjourneyofyou.com – what should we know?
My business is called J.O.Y. Journey of You. I named it this because I believe “Joy is in the journey”. What I do is work with clients to balance them physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Physically I offer Sound and Color healing to give the client a place to come relax and get a tune-up. Sound and Color healing works on balancing the Chakras and stress relief. One walks out feeling like they have had a mini vacation from their problems, rested. It also helps with many different ailments as well. I offer Spiritual Counseling for those wishing to dive into their soul truth and spiritual path. I enjoy doing numerology readings for each person to get an idea of the person’s nature and life’s path. These are all offered individually or as a whole. I have a website that offers products for healing, and one’s home environment. I am proud to be of service to others. What sets me apart is that I offer services that most people do not.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have had many mentors and teachers along the way. Truly too many to name. All of them have brought me to who I am as a person and what I do in business today. When one begins a spiritual path one has different teachers that work for them. Teachers are usually recommended by a friend or one hears about them through some means along the way. One’s intuition will tell them if it feels right to them. My first teacher, Roberta Herzog, said to me “When the student is ready, the teacher appears”. That is so true. Each teacher deserves the credit for who one becomes and decides to do in life.
