Meet Jessica Santos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Santos.

Hi Jessica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My Name is Jessica Santos and I’m the owner of Jessica Santos Events (Event Agency), Sweets Boutique (Cake and Desserts), Studio J (Event venue), and Bartender Boutique (Bartending service) Cakeandtrapmia (urban cake DIY decorating class) In 2013, while working as a prison Officer, I was in charge of the pot lucks at work and staff gatherings. I was always into baking, Interior design and just always a creator of all things. I baked a few cakes and made some desserts and decided that I should take it up a notch. So I decided to take a leap of faith and bake and setup dessert tables full time. I relocated back to Miami because the demand for parties was higher in Miami and then I just took off from there. My cakes and my dessert table setups became popular and business was booming. So, I decided it take it up a notch and get into event design, planning and production. So that’s when Jessica Santos events was created. I would offer cakes, event styling, desserts and more. Making it convenient for my clients to only deal with one vendor. I love creating memories for people and seeing the smiles on their face when they walked in the room. I enjoyed mixing up drinks and making things pretty, since presentation is my biggest factor. So, I went to Bartending class and started my own Bartending Business.

Being able to offer several services was a goal for me. It is always about the customer, and if I can take away the stress of planning an event than that was the key. Since I was a young kid, I was a cook and baker so I also offer catering to my clients. I created the only urban cake DIY class in Miami, Cake N Trap. I teach a cake decorating class and we listen to music played by a DJ and take shots!! So much fun, while learning how to decorate a cake. I’m infatuated with spaces, so during my time here in Miami I would look at spaces and design them in my head and have several sketches on my desk until I finally came across this one space. I was so nervous because it was another leap of faith, But one day I went to look at this space and I immediately seen the vision. And that’s when Studio J my event space was created in 2019.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth is definitely an understatement. Nothing is never smooth. Some weekends I would have ten cakes booked and three events (weddings, parties, etc.) and a catering job. Some weekends I would have no orders, In this industry you just don’t know. After My third year in, I was nonstop booked every day for something. A huge struggle would be finding reliable dedicated staff.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am full service event agency and an entrepreneur, Offering catering services, cakes and desserts, event styling and an awesome venue space. I’m known for the multiple services I Offer and my event space that is like no other. I create spaces and curate events that people talk about all year. I’m most proud of the accomplishments I have achieved in such short timeframe of being in my industry. I create spaces from open spaces. I am a creative with my own sense of creativity. What are your plans for the future?
Yes absolutely, I’m working on a 10.000 square foot lot, I enjoy outdoor spaces, so this will be my next project. I don’t want to get into too much detail. And I’m also working on another event venue space, something more formal. Oh and definitely opening a space just for Cake and Trap Miami!
