Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Rosado.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always loved baking. I remember when I was six yrs. old and I begged my parents for an easy-bake oven and since receiving it I was hooked. At around 12 years old, my neighbor Nancy gifted me my 1st cookbook and that solidified my love of baking from scratch. My business started one day in 2008 when a friend asked me to make a cake for her daughter’s 1st birthday because I would often bake she mistakenly thought I had a cake business. I could not disappoint my friend and I was up for a challenge, so I accepted. My first cake came out surprisingly cute and it received great reviews, that was when a light bulb when off and I created the business I have today. They say it is not work if it is something you love. I am a self-taught MOMtrepreneur and though my family comes first, I am lucky to have a very supportive husband and children. They are my motivation to continue growing my business.
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth roads are for chumps. Having small children and a business is very challenging. Making cakes might sound easy, but making beautiful cakes (that taste good) is hard work and stressful. You have to work around the kid’s schedule and find a balance between home and work life. But with a little determination and motivation, I make it work.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sweet Couture story. Tell us more about the business.
Sweet Couture specializes in fondant cakes and desserts for, but not limited to, birthdays, baby showers and weddings. We make everything with love from scratch and always using fresh ingredients. Our cakes are known for being moist and delicious. Not only are our cakes delicious they are also beautiful to look at. Our most requested cake is the red velvet which everyone says it’s AMAZING! As a company, we are most proud of our values and customer service. We care about our clients and cater to each of their visions by bringing it to life through sugar.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Cakes are timeless. Over the next 5-10 years, the cake industry is only going to grow. The cake and desserts at parties are the star of the show – aside from the guest(s) of honor of course! The cake and dessert industry will evolve as we make changes to accommodate people’s ever-changing palate.
