Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Noon.
Jason, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a lifelong surfer and musician born and raised in Melbourne, Florida. I started playing in garage bands and avidly surfing in my early teens. From 18-23, I traveled the world as a social worker, doing work in Central America, India, Nepal, Honk Kong, Philippines among other places. When I returned to the states full time, I decided to then follow my passion to be a professional musician.
My first professional band was Central Florida reggae sensation Indicasol, where I was the bass player and musical director. Then I branched off and became the lead singer of my own band called Lights Out Project. Music and surfing then took me to live in Hawaii for almost four years, where I taught surf lessons and played in a number of successful bands included starting a Hawaiian chapter of Lights Out Project. Upon returning to Indian Harbour Beach, Florida, where I own a home, I restarted the Florida chapter of my band Lights Out Project, built my own recording studio called Garden House Studios, became a professional DJ, and started my own entertainment booking agency called Sol Shine Syndicate.
In 2019 I recorded, engineered, and released the first official studio album from Lights Out Project entitled ‘Reverse The System’, which is available on all major platforms; Spotify, Pandora, YouTube, Apple, etc. We recently filmed our first official music video for the song ‘Upright’, which is set for release in May 2020. The band is currently in talks with various tour management companies and hoping to start touring nationwide in the near future.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would guess any road to success is filled with potholes. And I still have a ways to go yet. Being a bandleader and business owner is always difficult. Dealing with so many different artists and all the personality and artistic differences that come along with that always is a challenge. My long history of traveling and moving back and forth to Hawaii over the years made it more difficult to establish a solid musical foundation. But at the same time opened me up to so many new experiences that I would not trade it for anything. Currently, I am happy setting my roots in Florida and focusing my energy on the success of Lights Out Project as well as my other businesses.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lights Out Project – what should we know?
The overarching theme of all the branches of my business is Music. Lights Out Project Inc is the umbrella company for the band (Lights Out Project), the booking agency Sol Shine Syndicate, the recording studio Garden House Studios, the electronic music division called Vibe Asylum, and my wedding/club DJ events.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
The list of people who deserve credit for any success I have achieved is never-ending. But I will start with my stage manager and business partner Robbie Roberts. For the Lights Out Project band, the incredible musicians I currently perform with Jake Salter (lead guitar), John Hulland (bass and musical director), Jorge Ramos (sax), David Hoag (keys), Eric Hill (percussion) and drummers Corbin Nappi and Alex Petrosky. And also the famous musicians who did features on the ‘Reverse The System’ album; Al Anderson (Bob Marley’s lead guitar player/The Original Wailers), Beebs (Beebs & Her Money Makers), Taranchyla (Major Lazer/Shaggy/Sean Paul), Niko IS (Talib Kweli), Sam Ites (Mike Love), Kelley B (Morgan Heritage), and Quinn Carson (Badfish/Spiritual Rez) among others.
For Garden House Studios, my audio teachers Bob St John (Duran Duran/Extreme), Brendon Paredes (Studio 101) and Andrew Walker (WFIT). For life, my amazing incredible parents and close nit family and friends, without whom life would be meaningless.
