Meet Jamie Angelis of Brows by Jamie Angelis in Coral Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Angelis.

Jamie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always had a love for art as a child. My father was an artist and my mother was a hairstylist. I have always been a hard worker and a people pleaser, truly enjoying making others feel good. As I got older, I combined my love for art & makeup! I became a makeup artist when I was in my 20’s, at MAC cosmetics, but it wasn’t really all that I had hoped it would be. As I got older, I never really considered art as a way to make money, so tried so many different jobs and career paths. I always felt lost and unsatisfied. I became a mother was I was 28, and was divorced and a single mom by the time I was 30. I have been in and out of the restaurant business as a server since I was 16 years old.

The restaurant business always made me feel good. I had an easy time building relationships with customers and felt like I did a great job. But it still never gave me what I was looking for… as far as financially for my son and I. I even received my Bachelor’s degree, Cum Laude, as a single mom with a toddler. I tried a few more jobs and went back to the restaurant business. Last year I decided to try something new! I decided to go for my Microblading Certification! I did it, and it changed my entire life! After my certification, I apprenticed for about five months until I took my 1st client! I started working in a tattoo shop, and during that time (on my own), I received my certification in tattoo removals and eyelash extensions! And then, in February 2020, I decided to open my own business! I opened Brows by Jamie Angelis in the Phenix Salon Suites in Coral Springs! For the first time in my life, I have felt like I found my calling, what I am meant to do! I see the potential for my family and I, and I truly love what I do!!! I want continue growing my education in the permanent makeup and beauty industry!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has NOT been a smooth road. Always struggling with my own internal insecurities of not feeling good enough or worthy. Trying to please others for so long never taught me to please myself! Until I was in my 30’s, and after having my son, I didn’t really love myself. Going through a divorce and always struggling to find what I was meant to do in life wasn’t easy. Being a single mom and always struggling financially was really taxing (and embarrassing to me). The funny part is, only people super close to me knew this. The people-pleaser in me always knows how to paint a pretty picture and smile through it all. Always. My mom taught me as a kid…”leave your problems at the door. Everyone is going through something. When you walk into a room… its showtime”. She also said, “powder and paint, make you what you ain’t” lol. Which is maybe why I have always loved makeup?

Brows by Jamie Angelis – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I do Microblading and Microshading, tattoo removals, and eyelash extensions. I am mostly proud of myself and how far I have come in life. I felt like a nothing, to a something! I feel like I found my way, my path! And it feels so good! I also love my space and what it looks like! I love the Phenix Salon Suites, management, and my neighbors there. It is so great being a part of a community that is filled with like-minded people, with the services they offer, in order to help make others feel good about themselves! Microblading and Microshading is so great for women that want to help give their eyebrows some love (through a semi-permanent tattoo process)! I had mine done and it has saved me so much time getting ready, not to mention… I feel prettier with them done.

Tattoo removal (through a saline solution removal process… no lasers) is amazing to lighten or to remove previous tattoos (of any kind)! Eyelash extensions help take natural eyelashes up a notch or two… depending on how long and full one desires them to be! It opens your eyes and you can say bye to mascara! What sets me apart from others is that I go above and beyond to make clients feel comfortable with me and the process. From the moment we connect, I want to build a relationship with them, one where they can ask me questions anytime and truly feel like I am going to give them what they want… in order for them to feel their best! I want each person to know how grateful I am for them choosing me to be their artist. None of this came easy for me and I appreciate every person who reaches out to me. I want to continue to grow as an artist and, a person, and to always listen to my client’s needs and concerns.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success, for myself, through your own happiness in what you do and in service. For me, I did always feel successful when I was serving others. I felt accomplished by making others feel good by bringing them food that they enjoyed (as quick as I could) and with meaningful conversations, making others feel pretty by doing their makeup, or in any other job that I had when I felt like I took a task from start to finish… in a productive manner. I still believe my success is found in serving others, and now I feel more successful than ever because I truly love what do! I get to go to my Salon and practice my art and my skills, see my awesome clients… and that makes me happy!

I look forward to each appointment, instead of dreading going to a job I do not love. That, to me, is being successful!
