Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamar Germain.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jamar. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story begins during adolescence really. My family is musically inclined (my father is a highly regarded percussionist in the Haitian music industry and my uncle was a well respected New York DJ). Therefore, I spent a great deal of my childhood immersed in different genres of music from R&B, Hip Hop, House, Kompa, Salsa, Reggae and the list goes on. Music became an essential component in my day to day and I honestly can’t even remember when I first began to sing. If I had to guess, I would say around 4 years of age.
I played trumpet in jazz, concert and marching band for about 7 years. It was during my late teenage years that I began taking my craft as a singer/ songwriter more seriously. I was enamored with music and entertainment. I wanted to get involved someway, somehow, no matter what. While 19 and in college, I began DJing on the side, a hobby that has since become a lucrative and wonderful business venture. Since college, I have become a fully fledged singer/songwriter and actor, releasing two R&B singles (Follow Me & X-Rated) that are available through iTunes, Spotify and all over the digital world.
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t believe there’s anything worthwhile to gain through a smooth journey. In life, anything worth anything requires hard work. Naturally, my path is no exception. I encounter daily obstacles from creating efficient marketing tactics to expand my brand reach, to finding locations/events to perform for crowds that appreciate real R&B music and also searching for a support team of managers and agents that will truly have my best interests in mind.
There are many struggles to being an independent artist and an entrepreneur but the most important things is to push through and stay focused on your goal. The minute you give in to doubting yourself or your talent, is the minute the ride ends.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jamar Germain – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My brand is named after myself, Jamar Germain. I am a Singer/ Songwriter, Actor and DJ. I feel as though I encompass a lot of what the entertainment world is looking for and I fill numerous roles along the way. As a DJ, I am known as DJ Nephew, serving south Florida for the past 10 years. The aspect of my job that makes me most proud if the fact that I can have such an impact on the mood, flow and overall emotion of an event. As an R&B artist, I love setting the mood right with smooth sounds and live instruments. As a DJ, I enjoy helping someone celebrate all of life’s special events such as weddings, birthdays and the like. By me doing my job right, someone else can have an unforgettable experience.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the vibrance, culture and celebration of life that our city has to offer! Miami is a melting pot of diverse backgrounds. Here everyone has a chance to experience life from the eyes of another ethnicity. That being said, since Miami is so densely populated, traffic can be a pain to say the least, haha!
