Meet Jackie Roby of Inspired Journey Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Roby.

Hi Jackie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have spent 20 years in the travel industry focused on sales and marketing. Back in 2008, I had fallen into a deep depression. Meanwhile, I was forcing a smile each day that I walked into the hotel where I worked, hoping no one would notice. It took significant therapy along with learning new ways to support happiness to bring me back to center. I became a student of healing realizing how much I needed and how beneficial these tools were to everyone.

Most of my career was as a hotelier whether on property, in regional sales, international and global representation. Though it was my position as a buyer for North America’s largest consortia that changed my story. This was where wellness and healing travel came into my life.

I was tasked to oversee a luxury wellness program where I trained travel advisors on wellness travel and helped wellness resorts with marketing. In this space, I saw the help I needed a decade earlier. If I didn’t know as an industry insider that travel could support me, how could we expect travelers to know?

Inspired Journey Consulting came to life in October 2019 with a vision to encourage emotional intelligence, support healing through travel, and ultimately create a kinder, more inclusive world. Six months later, the world stopped but I didn’t. I showed up every day creatively to build my brand.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth is not the word I would use for this journey as a solopreneur. When the pandemic hit, my business had only been operating for six months. I had to get creative to keep going. In the moments where others across the globe wanted to lay in bed, I was at my desk learning, networking, and creating. I attended countless webinars ranging from wellness to social media marketing to Google Analytics. I hired coaches to establish my presence online and become a master speaker. In 2021, I had 58 speaking engagements. Eventually, I launched a podcast, Through Inspired Eyes, that quickly gained popularity and is still thriving today.

The gift for me was having the time to get in touch with my intuition. I realized what I didn’t want to do and that I needed to reassess my messaging. If I was going to run my own business, it better bring me joy. That’s a must. This time also showed the importance of aligning my business with my values. Now that’s front and center to attract the right clients and create positive change in the world.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Through consulting and curated training, I guide healing and wellness travel businesses to communicate the magic of their missions and attract the wellness traveler. Weaving in Quantum Human Design™, mental wellness practices, and 20 years of travel and hospitality sales and marketing expertise, I help hoteliers and wellness travel designers shine in their brilliance. Because of my own experience, it’s a priority to support clients to find the joy in their jobs and careers to increase retention and improve emotional wellbeing.

Inspired Journey Consulting is known for expertise in wellness travel, genuine care, and authentic connections. One thing that has been consistent since inception is innovation. I’m often introducing clients to things they never heard of and finding solutions that benefit everyone. I credit this to looking outside of the travel industry for inspiration. Since I spent my career in this space, I know what has us frustrated and stuck.

I’m most proud of co-authoring a best-selling book, The Ultimate Guide to Creating Your Soul-Aligned Business, being chosen as one of the Top 30 Inspiring Women to Look Out for in 2022 by Entrepreneurs Herald, and becoming a sought-out international speaker. I’m also a founding member of the Global Wellness Institute’s Diversity Equity Inclusion Initiative and co-created The Transformational Travel Council’s Unpacking Us, a program that works on healing the self for human solidarity. All of these things are possible because of Inspired Journey Consulting.

I encourage readers to listen to Through Inspired Eyes for more on healing travel, mental wellness, and how to be inclusive in travel. Follow #TravelCanHeal on social media platforms to learn about wellness and healing travel resources available to you. At Inspired Journey Consulting, I work with clients across the globe. If you happen to work in the travel industry and are in need of some peace, I’m here to help. Everyone deserves more wellness in their lives.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Setting boundaries is a lesson I learned in my personal life decades ago. As a solopreneur, this takes on a new meaning. It now starts even before the first conversation with a potential client. I value diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, body acceptance, and prioritizing mental wellness. These are things I need my clients to honor. It’s because of not setting boundaries that I’ve learned what “bad money” looks like. For me, that’s an energetic flow that causes stress, frustration, and bitterness. Good money comes with the right opportunities that are aligned.
