Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabela Hurtado Uruena.
Isabela, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
A 25-year-old Colombian living in Miami. I started Energia Artesanal back in 2017 as a passion for food and healthy lifestyle. I studied Marketing in FIU, but I have always been in love with cooking.
Energia Artesanal is a business that brings real food to people. All of our products are 100% natural; do not contain refined-sugar, artificial preservatives, colors/flavors or pectin, and all of them are Gluten-Free.
Our specialty products are the product of years looking to offer the best to our customers. Our process begins with real ingredients from local farms using traditional grandma’s practices and focusing on innovative flavors that influence your mind.
My goal is not only to share a product but an experience for food. I believe in spiritual eating, and that food not only nourishes the body, but also the soul.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not really! Starting your own business in a country that has a lot of competition is not an easy task. The most difficult thing about being an entrepreneur is to always being motivated. Some days you have faith in what you do, but some days don’t believe in yourself. For me, the key to success is to always believe in what you do and to continue doing what you love no matter how many obstacles are coming into your road.
As a food company, there are always some struggles with food preservation and food safety. Energia Artesanal products do not contain any preservatives, which makes it even harder to preserve. However, I have find the way of preserving the food with real ingredients and not chemicals.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Energia Artesanal started as a jam company. I started creating marmalade with innovative flavors like Pina Colada (coconut pineapple), strawberry-kiwi and pear with almonds.
In 2018, I met my boyfriend, Paco. He has a celiac disease, which means that he is intolerant to Gluten. Thanks to him I started to come with ideas of GF bread. However, I didn’t want to use industrialized yeast in my product, so I created my own sourdough started to prepare GF sourdough bread. After months of trying with different flours, I develop my favorite product: Gluten-Free Artisan Sourdough Bread.
Besides, I do Vegan and GF banana bread and sweet Potato brownies. As an artisan business, we take orders with three days priority, moreover, we offer our products for event favors, such as weddings, baby showers and more,
Do you feel luck has played a role in your life?
Although I think that hard work is what really leads to success, luck can also play an important role in life and business.
I was very lucky to meet my boyfriend, which was my motivation to start creating new products.
