Meet Grey Mendoza one of the Pioneer Coaches in Happiness and Productivity

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grey Mendoza.

Grey, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am an immigrant, a very studied, experienced and motivated one, I have been an employee for more than 20 years and I wanted to help people the way I do know better: growing businesses by developing happy, satisfied and highly productive people! I enjoy getting hands-on with bored teams, awful challenges and lost causes and make them thrive with love, passion, smart strategies, creativity and kind processes.

I created a program called Happy Employees, Smart Companies and I also am pioneer talking about “Productive Happiness” bringing together my engineering knowledge and my life coaching tools so companies of all sizes can improve their productivity levels keeping people happy, I am a published author, blogger, podcaster, teacher, mom, wife and happy person who believes in good and believes that every human being is capable of been happy and satisfied with working life because we spent half of our life in our jobs. I started my company 2 years ago and now we have reached more than 500 people that are today (We hope) happier and more productive.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been just a little hard, I have felt alone -since I do not have coworkers- I do not have access to credit so investment is 100% from my personal account, I did not speak fluently English so there was a limited market; I used to say that I did not have soul in English so that self-sabotage stopped me so often that I thought that I was not going to get customers.

I also was rejected from different publishing houses but overall I taught myself to enjoy the ride, to make new friends, to build alliances, to develop resilience, to negotiate, to have fun and to been proud of myself because there is nothing that I am not capable to do, and those amazing things are watched by my customers and are tools for helping them to achieve a happier and more productive working life.

Within five years I had three miscarriages, lost my mom, lost my dream job, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and I emigrated from my home country and all of that, though took a toll in my emotions, made me stronger and more resilient than ever.

Then I wrote my book, I cried to my mother, I had my beautiful daughter on the 4th attempt, my illness was cured, I created my company and I began to share hope, strength, intelligence, kindness, and strategies to be happy and productive regardless of external circumstances

We’d love to hear more about your work.
We are A multidisciplinary coaching and consulting community. We walk with companies in designing smart and kind processes that boost employees happiness and productivity. I am proud of become both life coach and business consultant at the same time because improving personal life means improvement in professional life at the same time and I do both! everyday I build close connections with my clients and from a particular project we move to long term consultant services.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a small town in Colombian Coast, I had a happy childhood and then my grandmother and my father died and my world crashed, We, (I, my mom and three siblings) had no money left and I started to work very young -younger than was permitted by law in my country back in those days – so I could study at night and after 5 hard years I got my bachelor degree as an Industrial Engineer. By the same time I got this amazing job where I learned a lot and became a kind of a star, so I earned a lot of money , keep studying and learning from mentors and lovely and other no so lovely bosses, I got diplomas in marketing, international business, teaching, life coaching and recently my MBA in marketing. I always wanted to teach and after I got my diploma in teaching I got a part-time job as a marketing teacher for undergraduates.

I remember that since always I was aware that hard work pays off- I am a living proof of that – but it was until recent years when I started to realize that people treated with love and intelligence are the people that get better results so I decided put those things together in my professional life: love + smartness + strategy and as fast as an eyeblink I started to see amazing results; that is what I do today, not as an employee but as a business coach and mentor giving tips and advice to managers, entrepreneurs and business owners about getting better results and productivity keeping happy employees.
