Meet Giselle Sanchez of GS Makeup Artistry & Hairstyling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giselle Sanchez.

Giselle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was 22 with two fresh BA degrees in my hand and no passion for what I studied. I don’t recall the exact moment That I started my love for makeup but I’m so thankful it came into my life. Anyone who I could get my hands on had to leave with their makeup done. There was something so magical about the moment they saw themselves for the first time after I finished. It made my heart so incredibly full that I knew I had to pursue a career in makeup. After attending makeup school, I immediately started my business. Bridal was my real passion, so naturally, the next step was hair. I built my business while in hair school. I have now been in business nearly 9 years and have had the honor of working with some incredible Brides, Five Diamond properties, and remarkable vendors.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a business owner is never “easy”. The “easy” part is following your heart. My first few years were a bit slow as I gained experience. Experience in running a business as well as with bridal styling as an art. It took some serious “leaps of faith” to start as young as I did. I always joke that my 22-year-old self was very brave. It is very easy to become discouraged when your book isn’t filling up, sometimes too disappointing for a 22 years old. But I have a wonderful support system that would remind me that nothing worth having comes easily.

One of my biggest struggles were (and sometimes still are) the behind the scenes details. The business side that no one prepares you for like licensing, accounting, legalities, and contracts, I knew what I wanted to do, I knew I had to start somewhere, but the first steps were so incredibly scary..

GS Makeup Artistry & Hairstyling – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
GS Makeup Artistry & Hairstyling was a dream of mine to be a small part of one of the most special days in a woman’s life. The opportunity to provide beauty services to real people, who might not have any experience with hair and makeup, to look out for them and help make their day run as smoothly as possible. I was a bride myself and know how stressful the planning and day of can become. Anything I could do to make it easier was my goal. I want to be known for being a positive light on a wedding day. Someone who comes on a professional basis but feels like a friend who just happens to be doing their hair/makeup.

Over the years I have heard such wonderful things said about myself and my work… but my favorite compliment is when someone says “you were the easiest vendor to work with! ” or “you were my favorite vendor”. What an extraordinary compliment to give someone! That is my goal with every wedding. I am always TEAM BRIDE and I think that’s what makes me different from the others. This isn’t my job, this is my heart.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
At the end of a wedding, when a bride hugs me goodbye, pulls away, looks me in the eye and tells me she’s happy with my work. Genuinely, wouldn’t have picked anyone else….. happy with my work. It’s the reason I do what I do.
