Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Rizzo.
Gabriela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started studying cosmetology at Paul Mitchell because I loved doing makeup and I felt the happiest person while doing it, so I thought to work as a makeup artist would make me complete, I’m also a graphic designer and I never felt the passion that I do now with this industry.
In cosmetology school, I also realized how much I loved doing hair color so I decided to graduate as soon as possible and get my license. It was very challenging because at the moment I had a full time job that would pay my bills and also doing school hours, I tried working in a salon but that didn’t work for me so I decided to work by myself even though I knew it was going to be hard. Early this year I created my company after two years of hard work I finally felt my clientele was steady and finally quit the full time job and go for it!
Has it been a smooth road?
This hasn’t been something easy, first of all, I was not born here so I barely new people outside my family. I moved from Honduras six years ago and as you know this industry is about clients and referrals and since I decided not to work in a salon that meant looking for clients by myself. So I had to start from ZERO.
Please tell us about your work
At the moment it’s a small business but I dream of the day I will open my full Salon, I specialize in Hair coloring like Balayage and Highlights and I also do a lot of makeup for events. I’m so proud that I finally took the risk to work for myself and depend on 100% in my work. What sets me apart from others is my passion because I will never leave a client unhappy and they can tell you that I’m in love with my job because you can tell as soon as you see me working!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love in Miami the most is the latin people, it makes me feel like home and the least I could say the humidity in the weather.
