Today we’d like to introduce you to Elise Micheals.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Elise. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in a small town in Denmark, Wisconsin, and two days after I graduated Highschool moved to California to be a singer and actress.
I didn’t know anyone or have a plan, but I had a calling and am someone who believes everything will eventually fall into place. I ended up working an array of low-level jobs from Wal-Mart and Starbucks to Yoga Studios and nutrition shops, all while doing acting jobs on the side. It was at an audition one day when I looked around me and just said to myself “I can’t be one of these people” -Meaning, I didn’t want to be part of the cattle-call any longer. I hated my life and was in constant denial that I wasn’t doing what I loved, and just going along with what everyone else told me I should be doing. That’s when my journey to entrepreneurship was born.
I took all of the lessons I’d learned from living a life I hated and combined it with my insatiable need to explore the world. I went to India to do a Vipassana retreat, hitchhiked and Motorcycled across the United States, then eventually booked a one-way ticket to Bali to be my own boss full-time and have never looked back.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Haha – Is anything ever a smooth road?
You know when you’re in a small town and you have dreams to move to a big city, people are always on the edge. They warn you its “so hard” to make it and to survive – I would say, surviving is the easy part. The hardest parts along the way have been the mental barriers and struggles you have to overcome.
Being completely alone from a young age, I found simple adult things hard to navigate. I didn’t know what insurance was or how to get a credit score or even how to choose the right dentist. I had the midwest naivety that thought people were always looking out for your best interests – unfortunately, I was wrong and got taken advantage of a couple of times. It was hard to be alone and realize if I wanted to succeed it would only be me pushing me. I couldn’t rely on my parents or any friends and at the end of the day, that’s what really toughened me into the person I am today.
No matter how hard it got, I envisioned the future and who I could/would be and it pushed me through. I went from looking at a Mcdonalds sign from my front porch in Wisconsin to Ocean views in Miami Beach, FL. I’ve been to over 15 countries and have felt so blessed every single day. It’s not always easy, but the struggles are what make the beautiful views worth it. I look at where I am now and remind myself, it’s not even the beginning. I hope to do the same for other people – It’s not even your beginning.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Thank Your Pain is a mindset coaching platform that helps transform painful moments into joy. I teach people how to turn their greatest weaknesses into their greatest strengths by reassessing their beliefs, habits, thought patterns, and legacy intentions.
What I’m most proud of from this platform is that it provides people with the tools they need to be self-sufficient, to not only survive but to thrive. Things I wish I would have known earlier on that would have saved me years and years of pain and struggle. The tactics I teach clients not only help them but their clients as well. It’s a gift that keeps on giving and I’m really proud of that.
The difference between my platform and others are the unique perspectives I have from experiences globally. I have spoken and LIVED with people of all different cultures and affluence…I’ve seen that no matter what, the mental struggles are the same. And EVERYONE has the ability to overcome the obstacles in their mind and live the life of their dreams.
I think we all have a gift to share with this world and we resonate most with who can help bring that out of us.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance – Being able to fight through the pain and trust that things will be okay.
