Meet Eilyn Cueto of Sire Design in Office in Aventura

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eilyn Cueto.

Eilyn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I didn’t know then, but I began to design at a very young age. I would sneak away with my father to the hardware store (aka Home Depot) and convince him my mother allowed me to buy paint so I could paint my room. I’d lock my door, push all my furniture to the middle of the room and paint my heart away and re-arrange my room every 3 months or so – now I understand that my love for design began then.

Born & raised in Miami, I graduated high school at the age of 16 and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pursue a career in Law as I originally planned therefore I decided to travel while I figured out what I wanted. Those travels lead me to Costa Rica, a country I fell in love with and pursued to study abroad. I moved to Cost Rica for a few years where I studied Architecture & Interior Design, proving that passion drives the soul. The opportunity arose to work for a huge investor in Costa Rica who was looking to work with an up-and-coming designer with a fresh vision and luckily I was fortunate enough to be it. While I was still in college and working under the supervision of a licensed architect, I began to freelance and design a variety of unique spaces for my client. I was a part of designing & building hotels, restaurants, his personal home, grocery stores and even gas stations. A few years moving forward I came back to Miami and opened my company servicing clients all over Florida and providing Design services to international clients including Costa Rica.

Today, we are a leading Interior Design Studio with over 9 years of experience in the design industry, servicing all types of clients, celebrities included and have been featured on numerous of magazines and television networks like E! Channel, NBC and CNN.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No road worth driving is smooth – every business struggles and encounters bumps on the road and Sire Design isn’t the exception. I feel adversity is what makes you stronger and as the old cliche quote says “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” and I live by that quote. Building a company from the ground up at a young age leads you to make rookie mistakes and sometimes you ignore your gut and that’s where mistakes happen.

I’d say something I’ve had to learn the hard way is the importance of contracts and having EVERYTHING in writing. Learning that a verbal conversation doesn’t mean anything unless it’s in writing and always ensuring to have proper documentation of the project and terms is crucial to ensuring everyone – the client, the contractors and myself – do what we’re supposed to do. When all is said and done, what a contract states will stipulate who’s right or wrong and it will save you a lot of headaches, battles and disputes.

Besides that all struggles remind you that you’re human and to treat others as such. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone encounters struggles but how you handle it will define you and I refuse to let the struggles stop me.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sire Design – what should we know?
Sire Design is a Miami Based Interior Design studio specializing in high-end Interior Design services for local and international clientele. Our mission is to provide unique and individualized designs for the most diverse projects, all while providing lasting relationships and unparalleled customer service to our clients.

The team members of Sire Design possess the ability to make a vision a tangible work of art. With extensive global experience in both residential and commercial projects there is no stone left unturned when creating a space for each of our clients.

We are most known for the level of service we provide our clients while undergoing a design project. We make sure they feel Sire Design is an extension of their family, as if they’ve known me and the team for years. When you have that comfort and trust with someone, it’s easier to express your likes and dislikes which in return allows us to truly be the source of expression for our clients. A solid bond with the client is the foundation to a successful project.

Taking pride in where I came from and knowing where I want to go has always been a priority for me and so I have made it a priority to give back to the diverse community that has always showed me so much about myself. Working with countless charities including KidSanctuary Campus, The Salvation Army and the international chapter of Un Techo para mi Pais (A Roof for my Country) has been a passion for me as I believe the need for every child to have a place they can call home. Giving back all while doing what I love is what drives me.

I’ve also had the opportunity of being featured and approached to air on several shows. Some being, Macklemore’s Big Surprise on the E! Network, where we did a renovation of Macklemore’s home within 72 hours, CNN and NBC. Ever grateful for these platforms, I remain down to Earth and with the philosophy that everyone deserves a space to call their own.

I’m proud of the ups, the downs, the opportunities and the countless clients who continue to entrust in Sire Design in bringing their visions to life.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I’d say honesty and transparency is a fundamental part of my success. Most of the feedback we receive from our clients is that they feel like they’ve know us for several years even if we have just known each other for a few weeks. I take my designer shoes off and put on my clients shoes and see what level of service or needs they have and always try to surpass their expectations. Designing a space for someone is very personal and a lot of emotions and feelings are involved – therefore you must ways make sure they feel heard, even if its deciding between plain white or off white lol.
