Meet Ed Covino of Bes’Dam Soup in Miami Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ed Covino.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ed. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur. When I was younger, I was inspired by people who started from nothing and used their passion and brains to create their own way in life.

My career path took a few turns over the years, and what I learned from all of these experiences gave me the tools to get me where I am today.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Hell no, LOL! Although I felt as ready as I would be when I started Bes’Dam Soup, I expected to have some learning curves. My background was as a professional chef as well as a hotel operator. I planned to adapt this culinary and business experience to a field which was new to me. My knowledge and management skills to this point were vital, but I still needed to learn new areas such as: commercial food production, shipping and logistics, digital marketing and more. It was up to me, I no longer had superiors or peers with expertise in these areas. If I was going to fall, only I was there to catch me.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bes’Dam Soup – what should we know?
I have the privilege of operating my own business, Bes’Dam Soup. This is my baby that I created from just an idea, 14 years ago.

Although, I am an “all-around” chef’; soups and sauces are my specialties, and my style is strongly influenced by my Miami history.

When I first came to Miami in 1986 to attend FIU, I immediately fell in love with it!

At the time, The Grove was the hotspot and South Beach was yet to be refurbished and was unheard of outside of Dade. While attending school full-time, school, I also worked full-time at The Miami Airport Hilton & Marina. I worked and studied hard, but also made time to have many adventures and fun in my favorite city!

All of these experiences forged the person that I needed to be when I jumped into the world of entrepreneurship. The hard work, the dedication, the passion; and never forget to keep it fun.

Also, the best gift that I received from this city was the commitment to do whatever I did, as best as possible; thus the name, Bes’Dam Soup.

After years of hard work and perseverance through tough ups and downs, Bes’Dam Soups are now shipped Nationwide through our website, BesDamSoup.com. Families from coast to coast enjoy our fantastic Soups, Seafood Chowders and signature Pulled-Pork Chili.

Everyone loves our unique and delicious menu, and the fact that our soups are all FRESH, not canned or dried like other choices out there.

What is your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite memory was birthday dinners with my Mom and Dad. There were six kids in my family, and each of us rarely had our parents to ourselves. However, we had a tradition that on each kid’s birthday, that one went out to a nice dinner with Mom and Dad, and no siblings. The rest stayed home and drove our older sister crazy because she usually had to watch us until we came home for birthday cake, candles, and presents.

I loved growing up in a big family, but those birthday dinners with Mom and Dad who are now in Heaven will always be special to me.
