Meet Dr. Corinne Scholtz of The Center of Connected Living in Ft Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Corinne Scholtz.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Thank you for having me and I would love to share my story. My interest in Psychology began when I was only a teenager. Originally from Long Island, NY, I went to Siena College in Upstate NY where I studied Psychology as my major. I became most inspired during a class titled ‘Intimate Relationships” my senior year. Created by two prominent psychology professors, the course dove into what makes some relationships work, while others don’t, the ‘blueprint’ we all carry unconsciously that influences our choice of mate, understanding how childhood wounds affect our choices and much more. There is a profound art and science to the study of relationships and the practice of therapy.

I took two years between my undergraduate degree and beginning my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Hofstra University on Long Island. This was truly one of the best experiences of my life. I loved my professors, the material, and knew I was on the right path. I enjoyed working with clients and published articles with the Director of the program. Now, that I had the academic and hands-on experience, I moved to Ft. Lauderdale to attend the Family Therapy Ph.D. program at Nova University.

My private practice started in 2012 in a group counseling setting. One year later, I moved and opened my own office in downtown Ft. Lauderdale and have been there ever since. The Center of Connected Living – Fl is in its 6th year and thriving!

I definitely have many people to thank for support during all the years of education and becoming an entrepreneur. Most specifically, my husband, Jimmy Barkan, with whom I continue to learn about love and business every day.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
All paths have their twists and turns – mine certainly included! But that’s what makes the journey and destination so worth it! Of course, there are financial, social, and emotional challenges when pursuing any higher educational degree, and arriving on the other side of that experience opens a whole new world. The best decision I’ve made is to go into private practice. It does take faith and patience in the first few years, and a dedication to continuing to learn about business success. Social media has played an enormous role in the growth of my business along with choosing the right marketing company to get started. It definitely takes a team and I couldn’t have done it alone.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Center of Connected Living – Fl – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Center of Connected Living – Fl is a name I chose because we are fundamentally social beings and the quality of our relationships is so important. I envision having offices in different locations, hence, the hyphenated name. You never know, one option could be NY! I specialize in working with couples in all stages of development and who present with a variety of issues. I also have many adolescents and young 20-something’s that I’m working with… it’s always a fun challenge. I’ve noticed in the last few years an interesting trend of husband’s initiating therapy or single men engaging in their own therapy process. It’s so great to see and shows that we’ve come a long way in creating a culture where men can ask for help, express feelings, and take action to make their relationships better!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m currently working on creating an online program for clients. I’m very excited to take my practice to the next level and begin to offer more tools and resources that are accessible 24/7. Check my website in 10 weeks to view the final product.

I’m also very interested in pursuing photography and recently had an opportunity to shoot wedding pics! You’ll find some of my favorite shots below! I also included a pic of my favorite hiking spots – Mt. Washington in NH.
