Today we’d like to introduce you to Dorothy Wawa.
Dorothy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a career art teacher of more than 10 years. In 2014 I noticed the burgeoning of the Paint and Sip industry. At closer attention I realized that there was a lack of character in the subject matters offered and a limited choice in the locations. So I decided to create an option with quality in mind. Artertaining was born. The painting experiences I provide are mostly based on masters’ pieces or customers’ personal encounter. The locations are carefully chosen to suit clients with a taste for degustation and scenic settings. Artertaining took off and has earned its reputation of being the boutique style of the Paint and Sip in Miami.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Because the mission statement of Artertaining is “Quality” I had to be very choosy with the caliber of materials, equipment and personnel. I also was careful with accommodating large groups of customers, making sure that quality was never jeopardized.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Artertaining story. Tell us more about the business.
Artertaining offers a unique social painting experience. We pride ourselves in guiding you through painting your own masterpiece. We provide choice locations in Wynwood and South Beach; or you may opt to organize your own private event at a site you choose. We even offer pop up plein air painting events to our Artertainers. Our customers are able to say at the end of their couple of hours spent with us that they painted a “Monet” or a “Picasso” while eating and drinking in a friendly environment.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe in one making one’s own luck. Hence, I always put my best foot forward and expect the results to show one way or another. In the case of Artertaining, once more, hard work paid off.
