Today we’d like to introduce you to Dony Nelson.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Hi there! I’m a Floridian, born and raised in Miami, Fl (305), Wade County (I’m a heat fan) if you couldn’t tell already by the reference. I also have quite a zest for my Haitian culture and background. My parents immigrated to this country to seek out opportunities to provide their children with more than they had, and I will forever be indebted to them for what they did. I graduated from the University of Miami with a B.S in Biology and minor in Chemistry. My dream had always been to go on to Medical School and become a Physician, but things didn’t quite work out the way I wanted them to at first. So, with some time on my hands, I decided that I would give back to a community that gave so much to me, I decided that I would teach biology and chemistry and was afforded an opportunity to teach at a charter middle school for a year. That was an incredible experience, which ultimately prepared me for my next phase, which was medical school. After years of hard work and sacrifice, I graduated from med school, and am now known amongst my peers, colleagues, and in my community as Dr. Nelson, a Board Certified Osteopathic Family Physician. My passions involve Preventive and Lifestyle Medicine along with serving underserved communities, transforming one life at a time. Currently, I work full time as a physician, but in my spare time, I am a blogger at https://lifewithdony.com and a creator on YouTube and Instagram, @ Life With Dony. All of my platforms are used to help encourage, inspire, and motivate people to live their best life and not their best lies through Lifestyle and Transformational Coaching. I strive to help empower people every day to shift their current paradigms to a more desired and fulfilled life.
Please tell us about your art.
I suppose I am not an artist in the true sense of the word except that I practice the art of medicine on a daily basis by providing my patients with the best possible care I can give them, showing them compassion and empowering them to transform their lives to be healthier and happier. I hope that I can’t touch the lives of my patients in such a way where they know they have not just a physician but a friend, a confidante, a coach rooting for them beyond the exam room.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Success should never be measured by anyone’s measuring stick but your own. Have you given it your all? Are you doing your best? Are you constantly working and grinding towards reaching your goals even when you may not feel like it? To me, that equals success.
