Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Mari.
So, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Music for me started at a young age. Growing up, the family would all come to my grandmother’s house to eat, laugh, and sing together. Everyone had musical talent, whether it was playing the guitar, the piano, the drums, or singing, us getting together meant that there would be great food and choir rehearsal. Wanting to be able to contribute to those unforgettable moments helped me learn and appreciate music to a level that I believe got me to where I am today.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When it comes to my appreciation for music, that journey has been nothing but smooth. Looking for new music or forgotten gems is what I’ve always done in my free time, so the transition to doing it as a profession hasn’t been tough at all. Gaining traction as a DJ and branding myself and my business has definitely had some setbacks and rough patches but my love for the art always brings me back. I’m at the point now where I know I’m DJing forever, not for fame or status but even for the people who just happened to be at my house that night. If you come to my house, you might get hit with a set, just saying.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Sure, my company name is DJ Mari LLC and our goal is to bring unforgettable entertainment experiences to our fans. My primary role in the business is to curate events and manage the Vibe Control Series. Vibe Control is a four-part entertainment series with music and atmosphere curated by location. We have a Vibe Control Mansion Party, Penthouse Party, and Club Party, each with there own feeling in terms of music, decorations, and lighting. We also have Vibe Control Radio, a live-streamed radio show I put together to introduce people to the music they can expect to hear at each event. The radio show is usually where I introduce people to Eclectic Soul and Edits. For those who haven’t heard of either its always fun to see their reactions and create a new genre for music lovers to dive into. We also have Mari’s Angels (@ILoveMarisAngels), a collective of dancers, models, hosts, and bartenders that help with “Vibe Control”. Once I realized how contagious good energy can be in a party setting, I brought together a group of good energy that travels with us. When you come to a Vibe Control Event and hear the music you love, while also being put onto new music, while also being surrounded by people with great energy, it creates a feeling that I believe makes us unique.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family and friends, for sure, have helped me through more than I can even recall. I started my business pretty young and my mother, being a woman of many hats, has worn every hat she needed to get help me when I needed it. My father living in Miami is what gave me my roots in this city. Because of him, I grew up playing football in Overtown, and now I pass by the same streets on my way to Wynwood to perform. And then there’s the artist family that has been with me throughout a lot of my DJ career who push me to be better and helped me pass out all these flyers over the years lol. Shoutout @Marc.Made, @justJohnIG, @k_kidoftopnotch, @djbiggbang @rovproductions @Miami.Looks @ayee.smitty, and the angels I could keep going but if your reading this check them out they dope.
