Meet Denise Gordon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Gordon.

Denise, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up, I noticed that I wasn’t like everyone else. I would live in my own little world with such a big and weird imagination, I knew I had a story to tell. I would always scribble little poems down in my notebook and make them into a song. I would also write down a skit about how I was feeling or what happened that specific day. At five years old, I began singing and started theater when I was in high school. Being shy and having the characteristics of a quirky black girl was my biggest obstacle and my greatest blessing. I would always second guess my self thinking I wasn’t good enough. However, being different allowed me to do great things and write colorful characters. The theater is what made me want to become an actress along with creating and producing. Growing up in the performing arts made me want to tell my story and many others for the past six years. Over time, I have worked with actors and artists in multiple productions that have taught me so much. Both music and acting gave me a way to tell my story when I thought I had no voice.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wish I could say it’s been easy but I would be lying. For the past couple of years, I didn’t know how to get to where I wanted to be especially when it came down to my college degree *insert eye roll*. Even though I had all these wants and dreams, I didn’t have a plan. I changed my major three times before settling on my Film degree after being a Bio and Health Admin major. Truth be told, if you would’ve told me I was going to be a film major and starting my own film company, I would’ve thought you were crazy. But I came to realize that no matter what major/path you choose you’re going to find yourself struggling. Might as well struggle and hustle for something you want. After three major changes, multiple acting gigs and auditions, working behind the camera, producing my first short film and reflecting on what works for me, I realized what I wanted and how I should do it. Thus, Denise TV was born. I look back on what I went through and am grateful because it brought me exactly where I needed to be.

Please tell us about your business
Initially, I created Denise TV to tell my story and experiences, however, I realized that Denise TV could be used for much more. Denise TV is a Platform/Media Company that specializes in the production of short films, web series, skits, and documentary film. I wanted to create something that people can relate to by seeing their stories on screen. Being able to tell stories that no one has seen or talks about is what I am proud of when it comes to Denise TV. One thing that sets my platform apart from the norm, is that it is able to showcase vulnerability while still being real and comical. Aside from my company, I am known for acting, songwriting, screenwriting and producing my web-series “Lipstick Chronicles”.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Honestly, so many people deserve credit. Those who have played a role in my success, have been family and friends being a guiding light. One person who has always helped me realize my strengths would be my Aunt Michelle (@micaligor). My Aunt has always encouraged me to go after what was best for me. If It wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t have taken the initiative to be in the entertainment industry. Another big set of supporters would, of course, be my parents, they root hard for me no matter what I do. Aside from family, my biggest coach, advocate and supporter would have to be my bestfriend Micah Ramos (@wowitsmicah). Mr. Ramos always gives me hard-hitting advice even when I don’t want to hear it. Micah has definitely had a hand in most of what I produce and acts as my consultant, he’s amazing. Everyone who supports me deserves a medal because they’ve helped me through so much. Even though I didn’t list all of them, they know who they are. Love y’all!
