Today we’d like to introduce you to Dania Bernard.
Dania, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Everything started back in 2006 when I made tricked out Myspace profiles that looked like websites. Little did I know that Myspace inadvertently taught me HTML and that this skill would be valuable for years to come. I’ve always been voraciously curious about human potential and what it means to be truly happy, successful and creatively fulfilled. So I picked up other seemingly unrelated creative skills: photography, psychology, graphic design, fitness, travel, spirituality, just to name a few. After several jobs and lots of uncertainty about choosing just one thing to be in life, I realized that my eclectic mix of interests and skills was a strength, not a burden.
I gave up the security of a full-time job and started worked several side hustles to keep a roof over my head and slowly built a DB Creative Agency from scratch. I’ve been a full-time professional Web Designer for three years and have 13 years of experience under my belt. The journey was linear and mostly confusing, but so damn worth it.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest obstacle was fear.
The type of fear that keeps me small and stuck: not knowing how much to charge, being afraid to show off my work, being suffocated under a pile of startup debt, trusting others, wondering where money was coming from next. Fear was an absolute dream killer because there were many paralyzing moments when I didn’t know the best way to make the next move.
My biggest mistake was turning fear into the enemy.
Placing the blame on a big, burly, malignant monster that stood between me and the income I worked tirelessly for. I didn’t go to school for business, so every lesson learned was simultaneously painful and enlightening.
I realized the only thing worse than my fears was waiting to stop feeling afraid, so I had to take action even though I was terrified. Pushing beyond my comfort zones was when growth happened. I’m still uncomfortable to this day, but accepting challenges has never left me with regrets.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
DB Creative Agency specializes in building easy-to-use websites that work miracles for small businesses.
The thought of building a website is overwhelming for most customers and they are intimidated by potential costs and the process. I do my best to make every customer feel mind blown by their experience and feel reassured they’re connected with a company that truly cares about them for the long-haul by making the project lots of fun and super simple.
My colleagues call me the “Wix Wizard” because I’m well known in the Wix.com Partner Community.
By creating priceless resources that bridge the gap between ability and ambition, my service empowers bootstrapping professionals to succeed on their own terms. Doing this has differentiated my brand from other web designers and is something I’m proud of. My body of work is my greatest accomplishment.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The miraculous thing about my industry is that most business comes from the internet, allowing us to work everywhere at any time. The internet has really leveled the playing field when it comes to entrepreneurship.
