Meet Cush Creation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cush Creation.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The group consists of three members – Ricky, Siewave and Tre Heimlich. All three of us attended North Miami Beach high school. We all met at various times but became close when we joined the Marching band’s drumline. We graduated class of 2013 and stayed in touch throughout the years. We bonded with each other through music more specifically our obscure taste and the wide variety of genres, artists, and platforms we shared with one another. By 2019 we all got into DJing and decided to join together and create a radio show called ‘Bannan Dous Radio’ SoundCloud. We collectively decided against the name and came up with ‘Cush Creation’. We released our first mix ‘The Demo’ on SoundCloud in May of 2019 and continued with the radio show until December where we threw our first in-person show ‘No Request’. We loved being in a space sharing the music we enjoyed with others and continued to do so. When the pandemic hit, we began Djing together simultaneously together for fun, bouncing ideas off of each other to pass time, eventually we took it to the Instagram space to share it with others. During that timeframe, we started to create beats as a different creative outlet, which resulted in us releasing a series of beat tapes on Soundcloud. When places started to open up, we came across a progressive event space, Purple Palms Creative, where we were given the opportunity to throw our following ‘Frequency’ shows.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a DJ or a creative is a challenging road to embark on. It isn’t always a smooth path things get bumpy especially when you aren’t trying to do something that’s not so common however the obstacles become worth it when your able to provide an experience that most haven’t felt yet.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Cush Creation is an immerging Dj/Producer trio attempting to push the bounds of modern-day underground music. Cush Creation blends a wide range of genres that compliment the environment that it’s played in. We simultaneously work together to expose our audience to new sonics and provide a genre-free haven. At Frequency, we have this unspoken language when deejaying, it’s rare that three individuals can play songs independently while maintaining a cohesive blend. The show is us tapping into the same wavelength or ‘Frequency’ with each other as well as our audience. It’s honestly this unique, unrehearsed, and improvised style of deejaying that keeps listeners on their toes. We pride ourselves on providing a comfortable experience to our audience at our events, where people can let their guards down and have a good time. 💡

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We think the music industry will continue to have big shifts within the next 5-10 years. Big shifts are happening currently, we believe that social media, streaming, and blogs have provided a different outlet for fans to connect with different creatives. It’s also a double edge sword, people are being overly exposed to content but in hindsight, it can be positive because a more alternative creative has the chance to reach a wider audience. The other side is the content potentially loses some of its meaning and is used as a “prop”. We have entered the popcorn era where if it doesn’t catch your attention within 30-sec it is not backed/pushed as much. We’ve noticed that the same 30-sec trends have pushed more creatives to the forefront. We are starting to hear more mashups being spinned on the radio, more branding around the producer, and underground artists being pushed overground. We also noticed older songs are coming back to the attention of the masses which may spark the listener’s interest to find more about the artist. Something as simple as Tracklib making a quick video of how someone sampled a particular song can cause a newer artist to look into their predecessors and potentially create a song using the sound from a different era. Music has also become more experimental and creatives are disregarding some of the old restrictions or “rules” that were placed. Overall, the music industry is constantly changing, becoming more innovative. Being overly exposed to content gives the audience a chance to choose versus being force-fed the same thing. And it’s causing the business end of the industry to adapt and try to value the creatives more.
