Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristina Torres.
Cristina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since I was a child, I have always been interested in arts. We are a big family and we are all very talented.
All my life, I have been self-taught, I learned to draw and paint by myself. My first art class was in high school and since then I turned those 4 years into an experiment of doing anything I want without being afraid. Always giving my best.
I graduated without a college, got rejected twice. Because my portfolio wasn’t good enough or they wanted a higher grades. But the third school was the one. I got in and I graduated with a degree of Science of Digital Animation. I said ok, now I can do animations, I can do graphic design and I can photograph.
I got a job offer before graduation and work in a studio for 3 years. Things got difficult in the industry so I start working in a clinic. I learned to do customer service, and a lot of administrative work. It helps me shape the administrative and business side. Worked there for 3 years but meanwhile, I never stopped doing freelance since college. I was doing photography and graphic design.
After my mom passed away, I decided to move to the USA. She inspired me to do what I love. Got a job in an e-commerce company as a photographer and met friends who had helped me to grow in Miami.
Now I’m a photographer and I’m looking forward to keep learning and challenging myself.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always challenges along the way, without them I wouldn’t be able to learn and grow. I think the biggest struggle was to loose all my laptop and backup data. All my work for 3 years was gone in one night. So after that it was challenging to get hired. Even after all this years I still feel a little bit the consequences of that lost data but thank God everything is better now.
Torres Create – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Torres Create is my freelance name. I started doing freelance 7 years ago with now experience in commercial, fashion, weddings photography and design. I specialize in photography, videography and graphic design and I’m best known for photography.
