Meet Consy Toribio of Dominican Curly in Pompano Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Consy Toribio.

Consy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I graduated from St. John’s University in 2015 with a degree in Government and Politics. Honestly, by my senior year, I knew I didn’t want to work in that field but decided to finish anyways. I moved back to Florida to enter the real world and struggled to find a good-paying job that I could build a career out of. After about two years, I ended up working in insurance. I jumped around for a little and I now have a two licenses and I’m doing well in the field. At the same time I graduated from college, I was transitioning back to my natural hair after almost 15 years of straightening. I fell in love with natural hair care and in late 2017, I launched dominicancurly.com as a hair care blog.

I loved writing about my natural hair journey and how much healthier my hair was using natural ingredients and DIY recipes. While experimenting for my blog, I developed a passion for making my own hair products. By this time, I knew for sure that my corporate job was not fulfilling me or paying me enough. I also had my first child in 2016. I started craving a freedom that I did not have working Mondays – Fridays from 9 am to 5 pm. In late 2018 I decided to finally launch my business and begin working towards becoming a full-time entrepreneur. I started with an infused hair oil, later launched a herbal hair rinse, and soon I’ll be releasing my third product!

Has it been a smooth road?
I started my business as a mother of one, and now I’m a mother of two. Balancing my boys, my full-time job and my business isn’t easy, but I do the best I can. I have to manage my time well and make some sacrifices here and there.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dominican Curly – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Dominican Curly is a natural hair care brand created for all hair types. My products are inspired by nature and only contain non-toxic and vegan ingredients. The Ayurvedic Multipurpose Hair Oil is infused with four powerful herbs that encourage scalp health and promote hair growth. The Hibiscus Hair Tea is a rinse composed of herbs and roots; it’s packed with vitamins and nutrients that your hair and scalp need! Because it’s a tea – you can also drink it. I am most proud of the love my products have received and the genuine relationships I have built with my customers.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
