Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Cernik.
Christina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Photography has been a natural evolution in my life. When I was 16, my dad gave me my first 35mm camera and I began exploring the art of film photography. In college, my passion evolved further: I worked as the Photo Editor for the school newspaper and refined my photography skills. After graduating from college and working in interior design, I launched my photography business.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was a huge leap of faith leaving a stable job to pursue my dreams. Running my business can be overwhelming, but most of the time I love it so much that it doesn’t feel like work. Creating images through photography has allowed me to express myself and life’s special moments for those around me. Even when I’m not working, I am constantly envisioning art and life through my lens.
Please tell us about your work.
Building a diverse portfolio has been an organic process. Today I primarily concentrate on capturing images outdoors. I have always been drawn to the sea. Several years ago, I ventured into underwater photography because I loved the way it was possible to capture unpredictable movements of sunlight and the ocean. I hope my photos encourage others to get outdoors and see the beauty of our world around them.
