Today we’d like to introduce you to Chivas Davis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chivas. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I became an entrepreneur in 2006 after I graduated from college. I first begin doing portraits and T-shirts and airbrush then I got hired to do video and photography for a local company, Joro productions. For a while, that was a steady income, so I created my own video and Photography company. I did that until 2014, when someone broke into my car and stole all of my video equipment. Over $6000 worth of equipment was stolen in one shot and I had just shot a wedding that night, so my customer lost his entire wedding video and Photos.
After that I broke down I was hurt destroyed inside and out I had to have a serious talk with God I cried to him, I was devastated, I was angry, I said how can I be an entrepreneur with no tools, no equipment without anything, I worked so hard! The response was, “All you have, is all you need”. He asked a question, he said are you an artist? I said yes, he said are you a teacher? I said yes, he says can motivate people? I said yes, he said that is enough. Paint with Faith was born, a motivational painting company that travels to any location.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has been fairly smooth. The greatest challenge was deciding to leave a 12-year career of teaching art in the public school system, Miami Dade County public schools to be exact. The greatest challenge was convincing myself I could sustain myself and my family as a business. Every day I was telling people to paint with faith and their life was a canvas, but now it was time to test my own faith. With the support of my family and my wife and my kids they all agree that I should take the biggest step of faith in my life and leave a promising career as a teacher. There was a lot of doubt there was some fear and they were the challenges of acquiring day time customers. When I left, my days were free. I didn’t know how to begin. The first six months we didn’t make any money I thought I made a mistake, I thought I did the wrong thing, I was nervous about how to take care of my wife and my family.
Please tell us about Paint with Faith: Mobile Motivational Painting Classes.
Paint with Faith is a motivational painting company that travels to any location. We believe that you can do all things and if you can finish your class with the goal of finishing your painting, what else could you achieve in your life with motivation, some guidance, and just some faith in yourself. I am proud to have five outstanding artists and 15 art assistants. We have a North, Central, and South Team. I am most proud of the expansion through the three counties and the great reviews we get from our artists. The most encouraging thing is to teach and motivate senior citizens that are 70,80 and 90 years old that have never painted in their life and now that has a sense of accomplishment in our class. The main thing that sets us apart is the fact that we are mobile and we travel to senior medical centers, assisted living facilities, schools for people with disabilities, homes, churches and more.
What were you like growing up?
I discovered I was an Artist at a summer camp back when I was six years old. When I was in the arts and crafts room by myself, I seen a ninja on the wall and I said to myself, man that’s awesome ninja drawing. I decided to draw it so when I drew it and I was impressed with myself. Then the other kids came in and they said, wow Chivas I didn’t know you can draw. I said I didn’t know I can draw either. Can you draw me a ninja just like that? I said if you have a quarter I can, and that day I made up to three dollars and was able to buy me some soda and some donuts at the camp. That school year, I entered the magnet Art program. I was then surrounded by my people in the arts. To my family, I was always the weird kid but to my friends I was the norm. We loved cartoons, comic books and video games, and we still love all three to this day. I became a bestselling Authors for my comic book series the Whole Armor of God.
