Meet Cassie Winters-Smith and Jenny Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Winters-Smith and Jenny Smith.

Hi Cassie and Jenny, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I (Cassie) always loved being in the kitchen with my Mom and Grandmother. As I got older, it developed more into a love for baking specifically. I loved being able to follow exact measurements and replicate the same delicious result, I’m have never been much of a “dash here, pinch there” kind of girl. Plus, everyone is always happy when dessert came out, and I loved making people happy!

I (Jenny), was lucky enough to have my Aunt and Uncle live just down the street from us while growing up. My earliest baking memory was making popcorn balls with my Aunt Donna for Christmas. She did all of the baking for the family, because she couldn’t cook, and my Mom couldn’t bake. And she instilled in me my love for baking!

I started dating Mark (Jenny’s son) in 2018, and shortly after, we realized that both of us enjoyed baking. So, on our Fridays off of work, Jenny and I would spend the day in the kitchen, baking anything from family favorites to complex things we’ve never tried, and had a blast doing so! After a while of Baking Fridays, we decided to take a huge leap and start our cottage kitchen baking company, JC Bakesmith’s, in November of 2021 by launching our first-ever assorted Thanksgiving cookie box.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not! If you have ever tried to bake anything, we don’t even need to explain.

I can’t tell you how many times we have called each other crying because the lemon bars are liquid or the dipped Oreos just landed on the floor! But that’s what’s great about a partner because you can call for backup, and then laugh about it together later!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
JC Bakesmith’s is a cottage kitchen baking company in Palm Coast, FL. We specialize in homestyle nostalgic treats.

After years of trial and error, we are proud to say we are best known for our perfect, yes perfect, chocolate chip cookies! We are two Jesus-loving women who are proud of not only the business we have built but the relationship we have developed along the way.

We realized we aren’t just a mother-in-law/daughter-in-law duo, we are also best friends. In simpler terms, we are proud of ourselves! We are set apart from others because while crazy intricate cookies and cakes are all the rave today, JC Bakesmith focuses on down-to-earth, classic, and delicious recipes that have withstood the test of time.

What are your plans for the future?
Jenny has recently retired from her 9-5 job, so we are looking forward to being able to take on more work. And we are constantly trying new recipes and new techniques that we are excited to perfect and share with our customers! In the future, we would love to have a dessert truck!
