Meet Cary Reichbach of Trainerspace in Boca Raton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cary Reichbach.

Cary, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After joining the US Army right after high school graduation, I was intrigued by the military culture where fitness and life go hand-in-hand. We have a saying within the military which goes; “The more you train, the less you bleed”. While that may sound very warrior oriented, it has tremendous application in the civilian world. So many of us neglect our health and put a low priority on fitness and movement because we lack the motivation to exercise. We then fall prey to having premature surgeries to diminish chronic pain and regain our mobility, in essence, by not physically training, we’re “bleeding” more. And really, all it would take is less sitting and more movement to completely avoid most of these pitfalls,

After my stint in the military, I joined the Miami Beach Police department and was confronted firsthand by this lack of motivation to stay fit, even by many of my fellow officers. And although their very lives depended on physical strength and agility, they still were content to allow the cumulative damage of sitting in a vehicle or at a desk for 10 hours a day destroy their physical well-being. This was so puzzling to me that I began voluntarily training my squad in my off-duty time, hoping I could reverse these harmful habits.

My training of police and military led to training high-profile CEO’s VIP’s and celebrities, and I encountered the exact same obstacle. Very intelligent people, who knew all the reasons why they should be moving more and sitting less, but lacked the basic motivation to exercise consistently on their own. Maybe the issue was the way exercise was being presented? Maybe the typical gym model itself with it’s harsh, headache causing fluorescent lighting, tired, antiquated equipment, and uninspiring design was to blame.

These thoughts and many others led to the creation of Trainerspace. The pinnacle of half of a lifetime spent observing, training, collecting and recording data from busy professionals, doctors, lawyers, pro-athletes as well as tactical athletes from the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. Armed with all of that vital knowledge, I assembled a team of highly motivated fitness, medical, and design specialists, and together, we set to work on disrupting the tired, “big box” corporate dominated fitness industry.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When a team is led by hard-charging military veterans seeking to enact change in a mostly stagnant industry, the metaphoric shedding of blood is inevitable. From the first completely reimagined fitness experience, to conceptualizing what it needed to look like, smell like, feel like, how the surfaces under your feet needed to rebound to reduce impact, how the locker rooms would be elegant yet efficient, how the sound system could operate at a low volume yet cocoon every member in a cone of intimacy. This was a slow process but when we got to the point in our timetable to begin ordering the actual exercise equipment, that’s when we hit a wall, a complete STOP. In no uncertain terms, the available gym furnishings were as old and outdated as the industry itself. This was a huge problem – If we’re going to make exercise enjoyable and fun, we cannot use the same gym equipment that Arnold Schwarzenegger showcased in the movie “pumping Iron” over 40 years ago.

This resulted in numerous frustrating conversations with fitness equipment manufacturers who literally told us; We’ve been making this same machine for 26 years and LA Fitness, Life Time Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness, Equinox Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Planet Fitness and many other chains buy thousands of them a year, why should we make any changes for Trainerspace?” “We’ve never even heard of your gym.”

Without describing the subsequent epic battle which took place, Trainerspace now has an agreement in place with almost all of the equipment manufacturers to consistently supply new, never-before-seen, prototypes. And as new equipment is released, we return the older versions, enabling us to always maintain the safest, cutting-edge effective, and incredibly well-designed gym on the planet.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Trainerspace – what should we know?
Trainerspace is the most exciting fitness venue ever conceived, that’s one of our taglines, and it’s important because one of the main reasons most people don’t exercise regularly is they find it to be a chore. Kinda like brushing and flossing your teeth. You do it because you know you should, you certainly don’t do it because you enjoy it. So, you’re asking what Trainerspace does different and sets us apart from EVERY other gym? That’s an easy answer; Trainerspace totally changed the concept of a gym, from an uncomfortable place you go to for exercise, to a health and wellness playground you don’t ever want to leave.

How did we accomplish that? Long hours and lots of research. You see, we know that every person will reach and exceed their health and fitness goals through the safe and effective training that our expert team of specialists can provide. But what we also know is that to engage and immerse your readers completely so they look and feel amazing, we had to go further than that. Like true pioneers, we explored color theory, sensory input, and a multitude of other factors that previously have been completely overlooked by the fitness industry. And now we are privileged to provide our lucky community with the most focused and well-equipped training facility on planet earth. That’s a pretty powerful statement, but we can back it up 100%.

What also sets us apart and makes us proud is our mission. My team and I realized that the many of our nation’s returning combat veterans were treated as victims and then, unsurprisingly, developed a victim mentality. Tragically, this has led to one of the highest suicide rates in US history, the much publicized “22-a-day”. In order to address that, we designed Trainerspace as a socially responsible company. That’s to say, our for-profit directly feeds our non-profit 501(c)3, the Trainerspace Foundation. (please see link at end of story). Through the Trainerspace Foundation, we seek to reduce and eliminate PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) related veteran suicides by empowering prior military leaders to heal the physical and mental stresses accumulated from military service. Essentially, we give them a hand-up instead of a hand-out and change them from liabilities to assets serving their south Florida community.

To accomplish this, we invested thousands of hours in identifying and contacting the brightest minds in the world as well as our current military counterparts, responsible for the training and resiliency of our most highly-skilled tactical warriors. This led us to the development of a series of protocols which elevate all aspects of life through revolutionary technologies and progressive therapies. LighStim Phtobiomodulation, RedCord Neuromuscular Activation, and Trainerspace Vibrational Therapy are just a few incredibly effective new technologies we deploy at Trainerspace to allow both veterans as well as civilians to reach their highest potential and lead healthier, happier lives.

Intriguing, right?

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Attention to detail comes to mind first, but I think a little background is in order. In direct contrast to my military experiences, I studied and received a degree in hospitality management from both Oxford University in England and Florida International University in Miami.

My fascination with the guest experience is legendary at Trainerspace, Drawing inspiration from five-star hotel chains, luxury retailers, and even Walt Disney World, allowed me to completely reimagine what the gym experience should encompass. From the luxurious feel and texture of our complimentary towel service to the detergent used to wash them, nothing is ever overlooked. And it becomes immediately apparent from the moment you walk in the door and are greeted warmly by your name, that this is no ordinary cookie-cutter, mass produced, corporate facility. All of our equipment, from our iconic stairway-to-nowhere, hundreds of sets of perfectly balanced, polyurethane comfort-grip dumbbells, to our much photographed, dazzlingly illuminated equipment wall, and countless innovative machines; Every facet of Trainerspace is kept spotlessly clean and in perfect order.

In summary, I like to think that I am in the business of empowerment. My team and I have empowered the fitness industry to finally evolve, making it fun and enjoyable to get fit. We also allow our great nation’s warriors to empower themselves and give service to their community.
