Meet Brianna Downs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Downs.

Hi Brianna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a young business mogul in the making. I started my first business when I was a senior in high school. I have always had a thing for being my own boss and exceeding my expectations in life. I’ve always thought of my “dream job” to be one that I created and molded to fit my expectations of the ideal job for me, something I got joy out of doing every day. I loved building women’s confidence and setting a new level of the typical beauty standard. Embracing one’s individuality. Majeure by Ebony was Created to Represent Fashion in a New Light. Taking the finest Leathers and Silks, creating Quality Pieces with a Variety of prints and textures. Using these Designs and expressing them through art. When I first launched under the name “Certifiedbabesofficial” the original idea I had for my business was a clothing boutique for everyday fashion. I quickly reshaped my vision and turned it into a full-fledged corset business. I used the support of my family and my part-time job to fund my business and buy inventory. I wanted my brand to represent me differently. I want it to be exclusive and unique, something that soon will be the future of fashion. I thought, “you don’t see many corsets being sold in Miami” or anywhere for that matter. I envisioned upscale shapewear mixed with streetwear and class, turning it into a must-have piece. My parents are Bahamian and Nicaraguan, I was born and raised in Miami by a single mother, my father wasn’t as present and I am the only girl of my mother’s children and the youngest. I am also a college student majoring in business administration and social media marketing. My brand really drove me to want to pursue a degree in business to further my career.

After I started my first business, I was overcome with adrenaline. I started a graphics business where I handled all things graphics. I also started a makeup application business that grew vastly as well. My most recent endeavor is I am now a licensed and certified Mink lash specialist called “MajeureBeauty” Aside from my various business ventures, I grew to be an upcoming social media influencer. I took up many modeling and acting gigs and grew my portfolio. Up until recently, I decided to enter the youtube world under the name “SOBRITV” and take advantage of all platforms. Being a student and wearing so many hats, I’ve managed to make it work but it wasn’t always easy. The constant support pushes me to not give up and know it’ll all pay off. I felt I came too far to give up now. I knew I would make my mom and family proud. I owe it to myself to exceed everything I could have possibly dreamt of. I want to be an inspiration to anyone out there that although you are young, you are destined for greatness. You can show people to take you seriously. I made my first debut for “Certifiedbabesofficial” on September 22, 2019, and grew rapidly. Before I knew it, I sold out of all of my inventory. I’ve had multiple campaign shoots and brand ambassadors and exected my vision perfectly. I did whatever I could to stand out from the crowd because I believed in it so much. I’ve invested my time and money into this.

On September 26, 2021, I decided to rebrand under a new name that I felt was best suited for me, “Majeurebyebony”. The reason behind the brand has always been the same. The brand was created for the unapologetic boss babe who wasn’t afraid to step outside of the box. Majeure by Ebony introduced Corsets in a way never before seen. Allowing everyone to connect with a piece that speaks to them the most. Each item is carefully handcrafted from the finest materials providing quality in each piece. The word “Majeure” means “Greater Force” or “A force to be Reckoned with”. Majeure by Ebony provides Fashion Forward designs and pieces allowing you to step into the future of fashion. Ebony is my middle name and very personal but shows that this is the real me, full transparency. My brand is still growing and has grown so much and I’ve loved every moment of it. I get to exercise my full creativity and come up with prints and looks that may be seasonal or trending and create a statement piece that can one day be featured in magazines. My dreams are big but I make sure I keep god and faith in everything I do. If it exists, there’s no limit to what you can achieve. I once dreamt my brand could be featured on a major blog and I’ve made it.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy, when starting a business you have to come into this industry with a mindset that you can’t get discouraged. You must remain positive even when faced with obstacles. There will be days when you might go without sales and bookings. You have to use everything as a stepping stone and motivation to keep going. Use this to think of ways to improve your business and constantly keep growing. Your mental state is key as a business owner. If you really love what you do, you’ll weather the storms. Don’t compare yourself to others’ growth. Your time will come and patience is key. Don’t think it’ll grow overnight you have to be prepared to put in the work. Before starting a business, be sure to do your research and be well prepared for anything you might encounter. Networking and creating bonds with other business owners could improve your mentality as well.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve worked with children starting off, I’ve had a growing connection with children from all walks of life. I went from working with babies to 6th graders. In three months, I grew to a leadership position, managing a whole after care program. That was an opportunity for me that I was able to grow individually. I was able to exercise my creativity through them amongst my many talents. I’m proud of how productive I can be. Throughout high school, I was in a variety of clubs and programs. I volunteered at the police station for food giveaways on various occasions, I’ve organized and went out on my own to feed the homeless and provide care packages to those in need of assistance. Throughout school, I danced praise team for my church. I was in young lady of Distinction (YLOD), I was in a sisterhood called Ivy rosettes as their telephone tree coordinator. I was a Women of Tomorrow team member and now a Women of Tomorrow Alumni member. I was in speech and debate. I spoke at many youth events to inspire others like me to not give up. I modeled, did pageantry and cheer. I became certified in coding in the tenth grade. I made $4,000+ my first year of launching my business. Created a brand, worked diligently towards it. Investing in lash extension classes and furthering my make up business. I take pride utilizing my time and taking advantage of my 24 hours because tomorrow isn’t promised. I believe in working for the lifestyle that you want because it won’t be handed to you in this world that we live in. What sets me apart from others is my ambition and drive to want to go after everything I want and not make excuses for it no matter the challenges I may face. My ability to stay positive in even the toughest of situations.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I believe the right mentor is someone who you could look up to the most, it helps if the person specializes in what you plan on doing. Creating mood boards and looking up the most influential people could be motivational as well. The best way to encounter people with the same interests as you are by attending networking events, join classes, going to establishments and asking questions. This all requires effort, time and research. Once you’ve done that, you’ll be setting yourself up for success. What worked for me was surrounding myself with people with the same interests and joining a marketing group with like-minded individuals. Writing all my business ideas down and having morning meditation.
