Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Azor.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was working in residential real estate and a friend suggested I’d like Commercial Real Estate better. She mentioned Terranova Corp had a training program for newbies. It turned out that the leader of the program was Donna Abood, a sorority sister of mine from FSU. I worked at Terranova for 18 years, being the President the last 6 years. I went out on my own in 2004-my son was 4 and I needed to spend more time with him. I now own multiple properties on my own and coach leasing teams around the country.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was a lot of hard work, and long hours. Also I was part of the generation where in schools, girls were led to focus on humanities vs. math and science, and that followed me, until I took classes to overcome this.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Azor Advisory Services – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I have two businesses. I but small shopping centers and I coach leasing teams around the country. I have been blessed with being able to understand markets to buy good real estate and know that we can find retailers to lease at good rents. I also love teaching and love helping newbies get into the commercial real estate buzz and teach them how to lease space better. I am proud that I contribute to growing the Industry by hiring inexperienced agents and teaching them the business. Very few companies will spend the time and money to give opportunities for the inexperienced.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Continue to help young agents, women in the industry, and others who want it and need it. I will continue to buy properties and encourage others to also invest. My mission is that all leasing agents will invest, even at pennies. I want them to get started!
