Today we’d like to introduce you to Arielle Loren.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve worked as a business strategist for over 10 years, primarily helping startups launch and scale their businesses to 6 and 7 figures. I went to graduate school at Harvard University to get my master’s degree in management. But I just have a passion for startups over big corporations, especially startups that are woman-owned. After watching so many women entrepreneurs take the “bootstrap” approach to funding their companies, I knew there had to be a better way. So I decided to create 100K Incubator, the first business funding mobile app for women to centralize 12 different types of funding for women in one place. Everything from business loans to business lines of credit to business grants — we not only connect women entrepreneurs with our funding partners, but we teach them how to qualify for the funds and scale their businesses to a minimum of $100,000 in annual sales.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t think entrepreneurship is intended to be a smooth road. You’re trailblazing. And especially with 100K Incubator being the first business funding mobile app for women, I didn’t expect it to be easy. What’s made it “easier” is that we’ve had a lot of support. We had 500 women go through the beta version of our program, which was just a website. That helped us show proof of concept. Once we had that, we were able to get even more support to relaunch as a mobile app on June 11, 2019.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with 100K Incubator – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We help women get funding for their businesses. It doesn’t matter if you’re a brand new entrepreneur with zero sales. Or if you’ve had issues with “bad credit” in the past. My team and I have thought through almost every obstacle that early stage women entrepreneurs encounter in getting funding, and we have provided a solution to it in the 100K Incubator app. But one of the things I really love about us, is we don’t just dump you in a bunch of applications like so many other business funding platforms. We take the time to educate you about your options through our 50-video Bootcamp (the videos are super short, like under 5 minutes a piece) and we make sure that you know what to do with the money after you receive it. We also provide you with live coaching and support during our office hours, so you never have to navigate any part of the funding process alone.
Any predictions for the industry over the next few years?
I’d love to see more funding opportunities open for women entrepreneurs. In 2018, only 2.2% of venture capital went to women founders. Worse .0006% of venture capital has gone to black women founders since 2009, and no that wasn’t a typo on the percentage. Even outside of the venture capital world, women founders still struggle to get access to other types of funding, including business loans, business lines of credit, business grants, and even business credit cards. We feel that the 100K Incubator mobile app can provide the deepest support in this area, and hope that more financial institutions will join us as partners in getting women entrepreneurs the capital they need from the earliest stages of their businesses.
