Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Harborne.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
UK born, my background lay in marketing management for non-profit organizations and education. I’m also a qualified interior designer and have a diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. I’m always hungry to learn and be creative. But something was still missing…
My husband and I emigrated to Australia years back, and it was here, in 2014 I decided to fulfil a long-term dream of becoming a photographer.
I’ve loved photography as an art form for as long as I can remember. I was always the annoying one taking pictures of friends and family on holiday, or clicking away at special events. I was always told I ‘had an eye’ for taking good pictures. So I did it. I researched the best photography course available that I could fit around my full-time job, and qualified as a photographer through the Institute of Photography. I found myself an awesome mentor, and threw myself into the photography world head first.
My husband then got offered a job in Miami, so we moved countries again. I had to start my business from scratch again; rewrite and redesign my website, promote myself to a new market, network with new people, test new locations…but I made it work.
The photographs on my website tell a story of a girl with a dream who never thought she would be able to pursue her passion…
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Living in Brisbane, Australia and being a photographer with a full time job also, was tough. Brisbane didn’t have the same opportunities as FL in terms of ‘communities of creatives’ so it was very competitive. Then, of course my business took off and I was getting lots of bookings just as my husband announced he was offered his dream job in another country. I had to start from scratch again, building my business and hustling daily. But I never gave up. I love what I do.
Andrea Harborne Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a wedding and portrait photographer. I mostly capture love! I focus mainly on couple’s photography in a candid way, so celebrating engagements, anniversaries, live proposals and of course weddings.
I also photograph families, maternity, special events such as bridal or baby showers, birthdays, etc. and work with companies for their headshot photography or lifestyle segments.
I’m proud of what I’ve achieved as I’m no spring chicken! At the ripe old age of 40, I completely changed careers which is terrifying but liberating at the same time.
My client testimonials and reviews all reinforce my desire and passion to succeed in this industry. I can relate to people, have high self-standards and my marketing and teaching background enables me to communicate to any audience in a relatable manner.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
