Meet Amber Tollefson of docu+brand C R E A T I V E and The Flamingo House

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Tollefson.

Amber, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I formerly worked at ESPN, Miami HEAT and FOX Sports Florida and applied that experience to what I am doing now. I started docu+brand C R E A T I V E and do Video + Branding. We wanted to focus on authentic story-telling through video and branding, hence why we infuse “documentary and a creative” style into our approach. One of our first projects was producing, filming and executing a Flo-Rida FOX Sports commercial.

As we continued to grow, we were in need of a workspace. The barking dog while on the phone with the client just wasn’t cutting it. Therefore, I founded The Flamingo House with a business partner who was in need of the same solution of a creative coworking workspace. There is where we house our team and curate a creative community.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Juggling a couple businesses is not easy by any means. I learned more in 2 years as an entrepreneur than I probably have in my whole corporate career combined. I believe that you have to find ways to be lean and resourceful. I constantly aim to remain present, no matter how busy you are. You have to multi-task but focus on one task at hand if that makes sense.

Little by little as I say. I usually see the bigger picture, but then you have to wake up at 4 am to take those steps to execute your vision. Fortunately, I have an amazing team and support group who believes in the vision and the concept, as well.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the docu+brand C R E A T I V E and The Flamingo House story. Tell us more about the business.
What sets us apart is that we apply what we learned at big corporations but infuse it in our day to day in a very anti-corporate, boutique agency manner. Sometimes a client’s work or vision might get lost in big agencies. We feel that you get more attention in a boutique agency.

We like to work on projects that the client allows us to tell their authentic stories. We don’t want to show fluff. We would like to get to the core of who you are and tell that in a creative manner.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We don’t really believe in luck. If you work hard, then you place yourself in a better situation in the universe.
