Meet Amanda Perna of The House of Perna in Delray Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Perna.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a kid, I was always playing dress up, remaking my clothes and creating crazy things. I fell in love with fashion in college, when I took a sewing class and I haven’t looked back. While in school, I interned in NYC for Oscar de la Renta and Calvin Klein. After graduating, I was offered a job at Calvin Klein. After learning and growing so much there, I decided I wanted to share my own voice and make what I wanted to see in the world, and started my own brand. I was selected to be a designer on Project Runway which opened a lot of doors including a collaboration with Hallmark! I believe in giving back and have mentored over 50 people aspiring to work in the industry.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has been a roller coaster. I’ve worked with a lot of people who made lots of promises and under delivered and cost me thousands of dollars. But, we have had a lot of high points like selling our products at Neiman Marcus, Anthropologie, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom and multiple countries internationally.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The House of Perna story. Tell us more about the business.
We create clothing, bags, and jewelry. We have RTW pieces but also custom-make pieces and make pieces to order out of our Delray Beach studio.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The fashion industry is constantly changing and evolving. It’s completely different from what it was like when I started a decade ago.
