Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Maz.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Adriana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My dad loved calligraphy and architecture and I always thought my mom had the best handwriting. I grew up drawing a lot. You’d probably find me at the back of the class painting or sketching so I knew art was my passion. It wasn’t until later on in high school that I discovered graphic design. Design brought together my love for drawing, letters, painting, all into one. That fall after graduation I started at AiMiu and since then I have learned and worked with some of the best people in Miami.
Throughout my career I’ve worked for independent design agencies all over South Florida. My experience started in branding, then to digital commerce, environmental design, film and video production. With those powers combined I am currently art director and designer for Jacober Creative.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Loving the process is harder than it sounds. I can get super critical of myself and my work but I’m learning to handle things with grace, and good time management.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I suppose I would describe my visual style as a blend of contrasts. Structured and loose, minimal and complex, with a dash of the whole spectrum of color. Currently I’m focused on creating fabric-like textures made completely in vector. After watching a documentary on Japanese silk printing, I am in love!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Optimism.
