Life & Work with Victoria Blue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Blue.

Hi Victoria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Miami, Florida to Cuban and Puerto-Rican parents. It was definitely a diverse upbringing being that my father is a pastor and I grew up singing in the church as well as having this fusion of Latin, Caribbean and American influences. Growing up, I was the lead singer in my family band “Vicky Son” which played gigs all over south Florida alongside my brothers who were also trained musicians under the management of my father. The musical group covered the Latin genres of Salsa hits with a blend of Pop & oldies. We started doing private parties in people’s houses and then 4th of July events. We did restaurants, salsa clubs and even government functions. By the time I was in middle school, I was a fully booked musician working every week with my band, learning new songs and running rehearsals out of my parent’s garage. We even had our own band business cards, banners and posters that they would hang at all our gigs and I loved every minute of it!

After being recognized by a local on-air DJ at my regular Sunday gig, I was invited to the radio station where I began doing jingles while recording original music and got to perform for the first time at a summer music festival.

In 2011, I auditioned for the Fox Network- Season 3 hit show “The X Factor USA” where I competed in Los Angeles

alongside mentor judges Simon Cowell, Paulina Rubio, Demi Lovato and Kelly Rowland. Getting all four yeses from each judge, I made it to Hollywood and got eliminated before the live shows through an unexpected twist.

After a whirlwind adventure coming back from my trip in Los Angeles, I began to feel a horrific pain in my throat. It was so severe that it pained me to speak and I had to have it checked out. My doctor explained that I hemorrhaged my vocal chords and needed vocal surgery asap in order to stop the bleeding on my vocal folds and preserve my voice. I underwent surgery and was out for about five months not being able to speak much less sing! It was one of the scariest moments of my life but it all worked out.

In 2016, I was cast as the principle vocalist for the first original production show “C’est Rouge!” directed by the award-winning Blanca Li. Held at the prestigious Faena Hotel Theatre, the original production was a live, cabaret-inspired 1950’s musical. Set to Latin American and Jazz rhythms, I played the narrative protagonist leading the audience throughout a wonderland of sensual and seductive vignettes.

As a singer, songwriter and performer, I’ve been blessed to play with some of the best musicians while traveling the world as well as recording my own music and continuing to play live shows.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Its definitely had its difficult moments especially as an independent artist. You have to learn to wear different hats; be the producer, the promoter, the director, the business manager, the artist and creative. Hemorrhaging my vocal cords was also a tough one, but you learn to toughen up and get better every time. It may not have been a smooth road but its most definitely been worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a singer, songwriter and performer that loves to mix my Latin influences with a fusion of Pop & R&B. Its been fun to finally be releasing music lately that reflects that and I can’t wait for everyone to hear more music on the way.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My family has always been my biggest supporters. From my early days having my Dad as a manager and my parents pushing my brothers and I to pursue our passion in music. They were the first believers, the ones who saw the magic. They have and still are my biggest cheerleaders. They come to all my shows and share all my videos. They see the sweat and they see the tears. They experience the highs and lows with me and I could never do any of it without them.
