Life & Work with Vanessa Resler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Resler.

Vanessa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Before I started working as a DJ I was a CPA! I learned right out of college that working at a desk was never going to be my thing, so I quit after only 5 months in corporate America and decided to do the most fun thing I could think of – throw dance parties! I started by hosting karaoke and I learned how crowd energy works.

People kept asking to book me as a DJ because I curated my karaoke nights so carefully to keep the vibe right, so I taught myself how to select tracks, mix, blend, and eventually scratch! Bookings just started rolling in left and right and I said yes to every opportunity until I was so booked that I had the option to turn down the things I don’t enjoy as much (such as kids’ parties haha).

Now, I play 5-8 gigs a week all over Seattle and beyond and I LOVE what I do!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was mostly a smooth road, but I did work two jobs for a long while before I went full-time.

If I could do it all over again though I would have stopped using safety net jobs and gone full-time much earlier. It wasn’t until I gave my business 100% of myself that it became lucrative enough for me to make a living.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a professional DJ, event promoter, and turntablist! I’m known for throwing high-energy sets out on the floor and having more hype-woman energy in the DJ booth than you’ll ever see anywhere else! I promote some epic Pop Diva dance parties and I’m most known for my Emo & Pop Punk ragers!

What sets me apart from other DJs is that you can catch me all over the dance floor during my sets, I’m really big on crowd interaction and getting involved with the fun. I also love to throw scratch solos over pretty much any genre I’m spinning, I love to bring legitimate turntablism skills to every set!

What do you think about happiness?
What makes me most happy is knowing that what I do for work is the business of spreading joy and bringing people together! Music does heal us, and dance parties are full-blown primal!

When I’m DJing a wild-ass dance party every person in the room has left their real-life drama at the door and they are escaping into music-induced euphoria, we all need this in our lives!
