Life & Work with Patricia San Pedro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia San Pedro.

Hi Patricia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was teaching Yoga and SLT Megaformer in NYC for many years and have already had a skincare background through my training at various skincare companies as a marketing executive previous to switching careers. I developed something called Yoga Glow and Face Fitness, where at the end of each yoga class, my students would lay in “spavasana” not savasana 🙂 and would apply a facial sheet mask and relax into a guided meditation. I would go around the room and give light neck + decollate facial massages. This garnered much interest in person and online through my YouTube tutorials. I began teaching Face Fitness in person for brands like Glow Recipe. My publisher, Chronicle Books, reached out to me the day of my son, Jordan’s birth for a possible book deal. While writing the book, I opened an online store and brand called Sunina Skin to offer face fitness tools and facial oils that would go hand in hand with the book to be published in March of 2021. That is where it all started.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were definitely many challenges as I was writing my book during the pandemic, I am a mom of four so you can imagine the time slots for the actual creative process of writing, running a business, and staying on top of social media. While writing my book, I was pregnant with my 4th child, Raya Coco — while taking care of the other little ones at the same time. Thank God for my nanny, supportive husband, and grandparents during the pandemic!! My book published in March 2021, I gave birth to Raya Coco on my birthday in April 2021. I was breastfeeding, doing all of the above while promoting the book as well. It was a wild ride! But a beautiful one I will never forget. I am grateful for the journey and the “struggles” as a mother because I understand that it is a blessing!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the author of Face Fitness, founder of Sunina Skin, Gua Sha educator + esthetician, content creator and mother of 4! I specialize in Face fitness exercises using facial oils, cleansing balms, serums, and more.

What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my role as a mom and of each individual child of mine 🙂

Career-wise I am most proud of the fruition of my dream as a child, my book! As a child, I did not see many examples and role models of Asian women in America- there was sometimes one token Asian and that was it. Our illustrator for the book, Maria Ines Gul, created different faces and more than one token Asian face.

What sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from others is that I do not see it in this way. I do not see others as competition, but more as people that I could support, and vice versa. Collaboration is always greater than the competition and way more productive for personal development and business in general. I believe we all have that something that makes us incredibly unique. My favorite mantra is “no one is above you, no one is below you” which is an affirmation that is included in my book Face Fitness — there are 50 exercises and 50 affirmations that go along with the exercises within this mindful book.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I hope to see a shift in “clean beauty” and “natural beauty”, with less unnecessary fear-mongering. Less comparison and more education around both BOTOX and Facial Fitness/Gua Sha/Facial tools.
I do see a trend shifting more and more to skincare, of people wanting to feel more real and comfortable in their own skin and in learning how to take care of their skin in the best way possible.

I would love to see less emphasis on age and aging and more emphasis on how we take care of ourselves for the feeling of beauty no matter what age.
