Life & Work with Jessi and Melly Nunez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessi and Melly Nunez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The idea behind Scarlette the Label originated around our parent’s coffee table, where Melly and I spent a family night discussing the power of untapped potential. We had often imagined lives of professional independence, flexibility, and freedoms that came with entrepreneurship but felt this was a dream that existed only in the minds of risk-takers (— not us). For years, we dreamt of roads less traveled and filled our time talking about the young entrepreneurs we admired, all of whom had been building empires with the same 24 hours in a day and Google search bar. It was not until this night that we realized a shift in our own thinking and an undeniable curiosity about the untapped potential in our own lives.

Like many professionals our age, Melly and I spent the greater part of our 20’s exploring traditional career paths. With degrees in finance and advertising, we felt blessed to have found stable jobs at reputable companies, salaries that paid our bills and life of content. Achieving success in business was always the ultimate goal, but for us, entrepreneurship felt like a distant dream. With no experience and only faith to carry us through, we decided to put in the work. After three years of taking small steps toward a big dream, Scarlette The Label was made a reality on August 31, 2020.

The world of fashion was not something Melly and I had ever studied. Our interest in launching a clothing brand came solely from what fashion allowed us to do for other women- to show up for their lives with confidence. While our brand is in a constant state of evolution, we will always remain committed to delivering pieces that resonate with the personal styles of our community.

Today, Scarlette the Label is 2K strong and growing across the biggest driver of our business- social media. In eight months, we’ve managed to cultivate a loyal community of women from all walks of life- women who not only want to see each other win but who want to look good while doing it. Scarlette the Label is beyond what Melly and I could’ve ever imagined for a business, and we can’t wait to see where this journey takes us.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There is no greater teacher than experience, and launching during a pandemic was no small feat. Melly and I like to say that we have learned more in our eight months of business than in our entire professional careers combined. All of the information you thought you knew is never enough, and your brain never rests knowing there is so much to learn. To say the road has been smooth thus far would be false, but that’s what entrepreneurship is about, no? We love continually seeking answers and finding ways to make our community proud. We are blessed to be making each other proud in the process, as well. We have a lot to learn but are up for the challenge. And we hope that it reflects in everything we do at Scarlette The Label.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I (Jessi) come from a background of marketing. I have spent 10+ years in a handful of pockets in my field- from social media to advertising, to public relations and more. Currently, I have a full-time job in marketing, which I love. Strategy is probably one of my biggest strengths, which I get to sharpen through both my jobs. Scarlette The Label will remain a side hustle of mine for the foreseeable future.

Melly’s professional background comes from finance. She is a genius with numbers and recently left a career in wealth management and private banking to take Scarlette The Label on full-time. Melly is ever-present in everything we do at the brand, and while her experience is with numbers, she has a creative eye, which you can see through our website and our social media handles. It was our combined skills that initially helped us take the leap of faith into launching a business of our own. We are quite the sister team and work really well together to bring our ideas to life (for the most part.. 🙂 )
